I've purchased one Proof and one Unc example of every modern commemorative dollar for the prior two years ... so I suppose I'll do the same and get this one as well. Hoping that someday I'll finish my classic silver set and gain enough interest to pursue the modern coins. David

Quote: The Space Shuttle I would be allover that one. They missed the perfect opportunity to have one this past year. For now, the 1992 Christopher Columbus commemorative is all we have; and the Discovery is a tertiary theme at best (behind Columbus and the Santa Maria).

I would also like to see something in the blues or jazz category. It would be great to see a Robert Johnson or a Billie Holiday theme or how great would it be to have a Louis Armstrong coin?

I'll be grabbing it once it comes out. I've limited my collecting of Commemorative coins to only those that have a military theme.

Quote: ... I am an Army veteran myself, but I'd kinda like to commemorate other things than war and war fighting. I read this again and found it very comforting, because your are a soldier who wants to be reminded of what you are fighting for (the things we should be commemorating), not the fighting itself. The American soldier is, indeed, a special person.

Quote: I am an Army veteran myself Thank you for your Service! My Son is active duty Army right now, so I have obtained several of the military themed commemoratives already. I'm not sure if I'll get this one or not, it will depend on how it looks. But in all honesty I was kinda hoping for something other than this theme. Teena

I feel like the infantry coin just has a very generic look to it. Doubt I'll pick one up unless I find one cheap somewhere down the road. Wish they would have released some kind of commemorative for the Battle of Shiloh this year, it's 150th anniversary. Maybe we'll get a Gettysburg or Chickamauga commemorative next year. Probably shouldn't hold my breath on that.

Its already on my punch list for this year. Gets kinda hard when you need to stay current AND have prior years to fill as well.

Being a retired US Army Infantryman I will most certainly buy one. To me it is not honoring war, but those who stand ready to fight. Infantrymen are a different breed of soldier all together. After having been in support roles as well as my normal Infantry job I can say that no other regular MOS stands as ready to, or trains harder to fight than the Infantry does. This is not saying other MOS's don't work hard, it is just simply that fighting is what the Infantryman does. It makes up the bulk of our skillsets and thuroughly effects every Infantryman in pride, attitude, and in general all together. I am glad to see that recognized in a commemorative coin as it helps me to remember my Infantry brothers I served with in peace and in war. I do wish I could get one with a CIB on it as that is the one award that I deeply cherish and am very proud of.
Why is the sky blue? Because God loves the Infantry!

I'll most likely pick up one of the proof and uncirculated coins. I have been in the practice of picking up two of each, but space is begining to be a premium. But over all I think one of each is a definite.

Thanks Clint. I appreciate it. I loved being in the infantry and it is hard to be a civilian again after so many years but that is the risk that you run in that job. Don't get me wrong, the family time is great now, but it was hard to get used to. I respect all services and all MOS's but my heart will always be with the infantry.
