Yep the Deep Cameo Franklins are beautiful coins, and some are pretty darn scarce! Rick Tomaska written a few good books on Frankiln halves I remember and might even own a copy somewhere of his first book "Cameo and Brilliant Proof: Coinage of the 1950 to 1970 Era" it was surprising to me his research showed a lot of the later dates in the series were quite scarce in DCAM condition. This was before TPGing firms, so it was kind of a crapshoot as to individual opinions whether or not you had a DCAM proof. The packaging from the US Mint in the 50-through the 60's sure didn't help conserve the high end coins either.

The Franklin half dollar Dansco album was the second one I finished (after my Eisenhower dollar album). I really like them a lot.

By the way, I moved this topic to the 'Modern US coins' forum.

Muddler, the W does stand for white and indicates no toning at all.

When I saw my album sitting in the lcs I really wanted it. It is domiciled in an Intercept Album housed in a binder. I have most of my stuff in Dansco albums, but the more I look at the Intercept the more that I am liking it (personal preference).

I believe that I will look for the varities that Hondo mentioned. But I must ask "How did they ever settle on naming the 1955 coin after Bugs Bunny. I'm going to look at the Red Book to determine what the various types are that he mentioned. Hopefully that information is listed there. I knew nothing about these varities until Hondo listed them here.

I do wish that I had a digital camera to be able to share pictures. I'm going to my lcs tomorrow with a couple of coins to see if my new purchases are either as good as I think that they are or if they were cleaned.

I'm going to try and borrow my son's camera to try and post some pictures. I really do want some feedback on a number of my coins.

The 1955 variety got its nickname from the "buck teeth" Franklin has as a result of a die clash.

I too bought my Franklin's as a complete set years ago, never regretted it for one moment.
Put them in a Dansco album and have enjoyed pulling them out and looking at them many, many times.

Oh yeah rick damasko, the proof guy, had some nice ms67's the other night on the coin show. I dont collect to many proofs my self, but he mentioned one key date year proof , that recently sold for around $20,000 ms68, he said if he could have seen the coin in person, and it was a true ms68 he would of bid up to 30,000$ for the coin. He said his max bid was $19,000 for the coin site unseen

The Dansco Franklin is my next project. I am going to try and get them all in at least MS-63 and graded.
Will keep them in NGC containers. I have always wanted to do that with the Peace dollar album but had to
resort to cherry picking each coin as it was going to be real expensive. I had to settle for the "Key" graded by NGC only @ AU58, that cost an arm and a leg.....

Franklin's my dream set. I have 7 dates in a Dansco album and I hope I will complete this set one day. It is really a beautiful coin.

Here are some pics I took when I got mine a little while ago. I had wanted one of these since the late 70s so finally bought one...

Oh, one more I had to post. I know some people don't like these, but I do. When Daniel Carr & the Moonlight Mint made these, I had to get one.

This 1964D fantasy Ben is actual struck over a real Ben, and was made using a former press from the Denver mint. This fact also attracted me to this piece. I like the looks and always go for the oddball things anyway (and I made sure the cat hair in the pic was removed before storing this)

I'm getting into Franklins and I have a few circulated but would love to upgrade eventually. I'm reading the Guide to Franklin and Kennedys by Tomaska and it is a fantastic book so far.
