I do a lot of photo alteration for publication. After years of this you get used to seeing inconsistencies in manipulated images. Conversely you also get an eye for inconsistencies in legit pics. I am not saying this image is manipulated. I am saying that from the pictures posted, the bill, to me, looks genuine. Some have shown where the design goes across the crease - this was the first clue of legitimacy I saw when I started reading this thread. Also the intricacies of the design matching on both sides of the crease is just too perfect looking to be an altered bill.
Nowadays there is a lot of high tech out there that I am not aware of, but there is no obvious (or not so) residue from adhesive (unless they had nanobots weave the threads back together from two bills!). From the pics I say it is legit. So I am looking forward to either learning a good lesson or, better yet, being able to congratulate Baanos on his good find.

Due to my experience in days in China, this could be fake, even if there's a watermark. Please keep this in mind.

Hello all, as it was requested, I am providing you with a little update on the situation. I sent my note to PMG and they have confirmed that they have received it. I chose WORLD ECONOMY SPECIAL, and they received it I believe on the 15th of May, the ESTIMATED TURNAROUND is 28 working days and their CURRENT TURNAROUND is 62 working days, so I'm guessing I should receive this back approximately on around the 20th of June. Also, I contacted the RCNA and inquired about their auctions, I may be able to put this up for auction in October, Forex it's called if I remember correctly. Bad news, to me at least, is that they told me I won't get too much for my note, not more than 2 or 3 hundred dollars, because of its condition, which is VF. I was expecting a little more than that and I've already spent over 100$ to get this graded, this is why I'm a little disappointed right now.

I am curious, why did you send it to PMG? Obviously, it was not of a gem uncirculated grade, and the costs are so much to use PMG... usually PMG is where you send really rare or valuable notes.
I notice in your profile that you are from Montreal, so why didn't you have Louis Chevier at CCCS examine it and certify it? I would assume authentication is more important than someone telling you the grade for this note (since it was circulated). Louis Chevier probably knows paper money better than he knows how to grade coins. It would have cost you less than $25. Or, you could have brought it to the next Nuphilex show in Montreal, in November, and any number of higher end paper money dealers, including Louis (CCCS is present at that coins show) could have told you if it was authentic...
I guess my point is, everyone was so quick to tell you to get it certified, but you are really only paying a lot of money for an opinion. There were plenty of other options to get a professional opinion, without spending $100....

Hey thanks for the update! Best of luck to you on it and the value is not set in stone. You never know.

The reason I sent it to PMG and not to any certifier in Canada is because of what I heard about their international reputation, seemed to me like the best bet and I did believe my note was rare and valuable. And I did not know any better.

Fair enough. I have not been in those same shoes with paper money, but I guess I would treat it like an error coin. I am glad you are sharing this, because there is a lesson here. I think the message would be to take the note to a coin show (raw) first, and see what the dealers offer you, to get a sense of market value (bearing in mind that dealers usually profit 25-45% from their 'buy' prices). Then decide if, and where, to certify the note.

Alright guys, finally it has been graded. It is indeed genuine and was graded a 40 with a small tear. I'm quite happy :) I will post pictures as soon as I receive it.

by sending this note to pmg, it looks 100 percent better than raw. this confirms its genuine and a chance to sell it, condition aside its a 5 digit missmatch at auction all you need is 2 people who wants it.

Baanos Congrats. I'm glad you went though the process to make sure it was legit and did not just dismiss it as a fake. I hope you get a nice premium if you decide to sell it.

It was well worth the risk to have it certified. Having found it in circulation, it would have been unlikely that someone who would have had a hold of it, knowing what it is, would have released it to circulation. I will probably put it up for sale on ebay soon.
