Quote: I know I crossed over the 2k mark over the summer but have been adding every week since then. Wow, TBK! That is a VERY respectable silver hoard! Excellent stacking job there. My hoard is about 2/3 of that size at about 1350 oz. It is still in the red but I do not care. Most of what I have are BU and AU quality US 90% silver coins plus newly minted ASEs and Maples. Beautiful stuff but it costs a little more than circulated coins. Still, my average price is in the area of $34 per oz. Not all that bad, IMHO. I still think that there will come a time when having silver or gold could very well mean the difference of getting through a depression vs. not getting through it. If that ever happens, no one will care what they paid for PMs. All they will care about is whether or not they have any. Got phyzz?

I also keep track of my Silver with Excel Spreadsheets. I have separate sheets for CRH, purchases, and sales. I have all the spreadsheets linked. All I need to do is enter the current spot price in the first sheet and it will automatically update the rest of the sheets. I know there is probably a way to have it update on its own. I just haven't figured it out yet. I am not in the black yet. I purchased the complete set of Franklin halves in BU along with all of the 90% 1992 through 2012 Kennedy halves. I'm glad I'm not the only one that keeps track of this. Thanks for sharing Steele.

In the same breath he says that he doesn't know how many ozs. he has and then says that that he has over 2,000. I took that to be ozs. since he was talking about ozs. If not, then he can clarify it in a follow-up message.

I recently put together a similar Excel spreadsheet to track my PMs, except that I don't include price paid. Basically, it lets me keep track of how many ounces of PM I currently have and what the current spot value is. In general, I'm just tracking spot value and don't include numismatic premiums for things like BU Morgans. The exception is the five 25th anniversary ASE sets that I own which I've just put a hard-coded value of $600 per set. If silver ever gets above $120 per ounce, I'll change their values to track the spot price as well. It's nice to know my collection of PMs is likely worth a lot more than what is listed in my spreadsheet, but this gives me a nice "bare minimum" value when planning out my long-term investment strategy. Plus, it's just nice to know many ounces of PM I actually own!

I just haven't figured it out yet. It's actually fairly easy. To do it in Excel 2010: Go to 'Data' Tab Click on 'From Web' A 'New Web Query' browser page opens up. Go to a site that tracks PM prices. (I used coininfo.com) Click on the yellow and black arrow by the table which selects it. Click 'Import' at the bottom of the browser page. Select the cell you want to start the table on and select 'Ok' on the 'Import Data' pop-up. That should import the same table from the web page. To update the price, go to the 'Data' tab and select 'Refresh All'.

I do not keep detailed list of all bullion purchases. I do however keep every single receipt given to me for my bullion transactions. Overall, I feel that when I sell (only when I need to) it will be a lot higher than what I bought it for.
If you want to try an iPad / Iphone app, I downloaded a free bullion tracker (just do a search on the App Store). This application allows you to add in your prices for bullion. I can put in Gold, Silver, Palladium, Platinum separately. It then sums up all your total ounces and how much you paid for it. It automatically compares it against current spot price to give you an overall financial picture. Basically, if you're in the red or black.
The software they have out there isn't perfect, but it's interesting and gives you an overall picture. I do think spread sheets/excel/sums/formulas are the way to go based on what's out there in terms of software.
Congrats on your investments OP. Keep stacking.

Thanks SDCrow. I was looking for a way to go that too. I might save a copy with auto update and one without.
