Nice grab. You wanted it more than me as my 3 sec. remaining bid was less than yours. Congrats.

I lose as many or more than I win up there on The Bay, but the thrill of the hunt makes it all worth it. It's strange that given the rarity of this particular VAM, one can find raw ones as well as several graded ones periodically. Of course the more well known VAM4A (Hotlips) are up there in large numbers. PG

What is this particular VAM worth? Is there a list of VAM prices? Or is it whatever a buyer is willing to pay?

As a random comment and piece of possible useful advice (though it may already have been stated in a different way): These forums are public to read even if you dont register. I wouldnt be suprised if there are people out there trying to cherry pick cherry pickers by watching for things that 'light up' in different forums and see if they can figure out where they are coming from.
Just a thought.

Quote:Is there a list of VAM prices? Or is it whatever a buyer is willing to pay? Canadian Banknotes .. I missed the second part of your question. The answer is "yes" and "yes". The Price Guide is published annually and available through VAM retailers. It is a guide only and the market is set at what folks are willing to pay. We use it as a guide to put us in the ballpark for certain coins. But there are VAMs out there that spark a lot of excitement when they become available and command prices greater than the guide, sometimes much greater. Then there are many common VAMs that carry no premium.

Quote: might bid on the very coin you posted about driving the price up higher than what you might have paid if you didn't post a link Although the following narrative is not exactly the same type of situation as above it is, however, exemplative of how even a newly discovered 'packaging error' can command big bucks. The following is an example of someone finding a 2012 silver proof Kennedy half in a birth set when it should have been a clad half. On ebay they sold for $ 132.50 each: http://www.ebay.com/itm/32087493467....m1558.l2649About half way down on the following page I attempted to be less abrasive by delicately commenting on the wisdom of broadcasting this find for authentication purposes considering the numerous folks (CCF members and others) reading the post: https://goccf.com/t/114548&whichpag...kennedy,halfIn retrospect my personal opinion is that the owner/seller of these packaging error birth mint set coins could have acquired many, many more of these incorrectly-packaged coins had the ‘cat not been let out of the hat' by broadcasting the find to the world. I am positive the mint caught on and immediately corrected the packaging error once multiple individuals began to order this set concurrently. fyi, mdpmedia

I belonged to another board where things got so out of hand with other members "cutting the throat" of, whoever, the OP was; that they shut down the selling forums.
You would post something at price "X" and would get a response to your thread on the board. Then another member would PM the perspective buyer and offer them the same product at a cheaper price.
There were actually several very heavy dealers who regularly trolled that board. One that I am personally acquainted with actually hired someone just to troll the board and "cut throats". When asked about it, the response was always something like "Hey, business is business, if you can't swim in the pond then don't jump in". One dealer was so notorious that he got banned for 6 months. Lol...at a show I walked up and listened to him haggling with a customer over the price of a choice Morgan. Once they agreed on the price I offered the customer the same coin for 75 percent of the agreed price. You should have seen him scream. But as everyone there knew about his online practices; all I got was a nudge nudge wink wink "don't do that again" speech from the show promoter....while eating the lunch he bought me.
They eventually revamped that forum so that all replies are in the form of a PM but the damage was done and the recriminations almost sunk that board.
Most folks are nice and live by the old code of not messing with another collectors deal. But some folks are just plain greedy and selfish. A small percentage granted, but they still exist.

Just an opinion, 1st Great find, thats a fine example of that VAM and think it should grade with no problem, maybe with "details".. I also think that the "price Guide " is a list of some of the known latest sales of some VAMS, just a list of the prices paid for certain coins, THATS IT, .. It is not a Numismatic Price Guide that should be taken as written in stone, I also think the people that put the " guide " together are in the VAM sales/Coin dealers BUSINESS, I could be wrong, but I do not think so, again, Just my opinion..........

Dad your COMPLETELY correct...Vams, or VAM pricing are derived as should be, by VAM collectors, note also that there will still be a retail, price to overall VAM enthusiasts, and VAM dealers..who ask to "BUY" at low retail...even still its like the stock market..Still its like any commedity...do you what this or that.. or some rare possible variety?. I have a few known varieties...that are not on any list...known for there scarecity.. yet NOT on any list... the list is for ....Those who have the know...

Gene, My Friend, The " list" is derived for a ASK/BID reference for the sellers and they hope, for the starting poing for any possible buyers. I am all for making a wise decision, just not a fan of the " Gauntlet" effect........ Be Well Gene. PS, What ever happened to the rest of this Family, Where did they go, OZ, etc? !!!!!
