I'm actually most worried about the marks at the jaw-neck junction - it's an easy 64 otherwise, but it's quite possible those would get " PMD" and a Details grade. |

Yeah my dad got this one.....I didn't want to burst his bubble....I'm just glad he didn't pay for the grade listed....which was a 66....he payed 64 money for it.....which I think would be accurate less the hit on the neck....which appears worse in the pictures than in hand....not nearly as noticeable. But in the eye appeal is pretty strong....may make up for a point on the grading scale.

While I won't completely rule out the possibility of a details grade, the marks at the junction just don't seem severe enough to get a details grade. I had though this one was approaching a 65 but those marks and the strike will probably keep it out of gem. The toning is quite nice.

I agree with the majority opinion of MS-63. The marks are not severe enough to garner a "details" grade. Toning looks natural and the weakness over Liberty's ear is due to a typical New Orleans soft strike. The strong luster and lack of any dullness or visible friction in the fields is what confirms this is a mint state piece rather than a high-AU slider. Not a scarce coin in this grade, it's still a very pretty one!

MS-64 IMO, no problem reaching that at a TPG I think, the toning color adds to the eye appeal nicely and would add a full point on the technical grade. Yeah this, otherwise 62/63 (might get 63 due to overall eye appeal, honestly depends on how prominent the marks are in hand). No way this is a slider or has any wear. |

But I was looking at this on a mobile device, and to be honest after I reviewed it on my MBP screen, I can't see this coin going over MS-63 at any top TPG now. Missed the hit to the neck area and didn't see how weak the strike is. Still an above average Morgan in the looks department. My first thought was MS-62 with the typical New Oleans strike weakness. Nice toning. The reverse is particularly beautiful!

MS-63+. Only the mark on the chin/neck hold it back. Strike is pretty typical for the issue.
