From your picture it is worn. The obverse is blotchey. Did the auctioneer have a white stick? For $500 Aus you have paid far too much. (Type 1 also known as left harp)

You paid 500 dollars Australian for something, and you didn't know what it was worth? And Peter, what do you mean by the "white stick?"

Philadelphian to be PC Peter1234 is inferring that the auctioneer is visually impaired.

Its HUGE. 1722's are easily 10X more in value than the common 1723 issues.
Probably $350 U.S.. Nice piece!

Yeah, I'd say $300 USD tops.

Yes, however as a newbie I was coerced to buy it, I thought it would be a good deal because it was slabbed. But I'm only new to coin collecting so am only learning, lol. I suppose $500 was way too much, leason learnt The serial says 167.63/60208379 I wonder how I can check this?

That's a PCGS cert number and it appears to check out on the PCGS website, as a 1722 Hibernia 1/2P, "harp left". They show it as graded MS63BN with a catalog value of $1750 USD. Previous auction sales for this coin were $1224 and $1495 so maybe that $500 AUS was well-spent after all. Presumably you could make a profit if you consigned it to Heritage for one of their auctions.....

I just read the thread....I am confused. Quote: The auctioneer recommends the grade is MS63BN OK...so .... Quote: I thought it would be a good deal because it was slabbed.
What?

Yesterday I wrote: "Until I read this a few hours ago, I was unaware of the Woods coinage. I've just checked my winning bids on ebay, and it looks very much as though there is a right hand harp halfpenny among a job lot I've just bought."I also said that it looked rough, and I wasn't wrong. It seems to be a contemporary forgery, 26 mm, 5.6 gr., but as I bought it and 10 other pieces for the huge sum of $10, I'm not greatly distraught.

PCGS tends to over-grade Colonials. Just don't put into a C4 Auction <BG>. The FUN Heritage Sale in January 2013 is a good sale to consign that coin if they allow you to consign just (1) coin or if there is a $$$ minimum.
