MS63 RB, deep scratch above ear and a few spots and marks on the rim, but fields are clean.

I thought high AU at first too when looking at the feather tips but also upon second look appears to me to be about MS63-64

What do I think?
In the bigger picture of the beautiful coins you've presented recently, this one stands as one of the best. I don't care what the grade is.
AU58. And I do not offer that grade often; I don't buy the idea of "circulating for three months and pulled, never to be seen again." You either save it from the Mint, or somebody down a much longer road chooses to save it for differing reasons at AU55 or less.
No discerning collector would be less than proud to have this coin in their stable. I continue to be amazed at the skills of the man who amassed this grouping.

Absolutely beautiful! I agree w/ SsuperDdave. It would be one I would want in my collection. Nice strike and the toning / color is wonderful.

I agree with those in the AU-58 camp.

MS64RB. I don't think the shallow obverse scratch would take it down to a 63. I do think it'd keep it from a 65, though. I also think this is one of those coins that deserves an eye-appeal star!

The old AU58 vs MS63 confrontation. I'll say MS63 on this one

I agree with AU58 and for the following reasons. As a very young boy in the late 60s and 70's, in San Francisco, I pulled pennies out of change each year to fill rolls of Pennies. I.e. in 1968 I pulled every 1968 Penny I could find and put them in rolls. And the same for each year going forward.
95 plus percent of all those coins have the same distinctive coloration "patterns" on them from being handled by people. The oils from the hands make that color between the lettering and the bust. It is a classic sign of a circulated coin. However; as it was pulled from circulation very, very early in its life there is very little if any rub. BUT it was circulated.

Whatever the grade ... exceptional coin and a great photo to show it off at it's best. David
