I believe NGC was a bit rough on this one and it appears that the consensus would agree on that. I'll be hanging on to this one for a good while.

Good point BH....plus I didn't get hit with the slabbing cost anyway. Almost feel like I cherry picked this one.

The strike is soft on the obverse center and it appears to have lots of very fine hairlines running up and down. The stars and reverse are very sharp and the peripheral toning is a plus. I'd say the XF-45 is a compromise grade and probably preferable to an "AU Details, Improperly Cleaned" rating which might have been possible given the obverse hairlines.
Regardless, a beautiful coin with a pedigree and Overton number listed on the slab. If you got it for XF-45 money (whatever that is!) I'd say you did very well.

Those middle grades between 40 and 50 are tough to value....however I got it under FMV for an XF 40 coin based on numismedia. I believe I got this around wholesale.
