wow no more rolling? The future has finally hit Canada. Too bad it was AFTER I re-rolled $250 pennies last week and returned them to a few RBC branches

too bad it's not accurate, pennies vary in weight and depending the size of the bag, can be 2-4$ over/under

jake, you stole the words right out of my fingertips. Apart from the different compositions, we have foreign money coming in (USA) which also have differing compositions. It's pretty ludicrous that they would use this system in Canada and that is why we use rolls.

Even taking coin rolls doesn't make it 100% accurate. Some rolls may be short, some may be over, some may have things other than pennies.

I have a letter here dated January 15 2013 "elimination of the penny: fact sheet and frequently asked questions" from rbc designed for staff.
FAQ - client
Q. If I have a large supply of loose pennies, can I deposit without rolling?

R. Pennies should be rolled or bagged ( using an approved rbc penny bag ). The rbc penny bag must be filled to the line indicated, which equates to $25. Penny bags will be available at all rbc branches in the new year.

I forgot about the different compositions of circulating Canadian coins. All Australian coins that currently circulate are the same weight and therefore weighing them in bages is accurate.

Hello All, I work for RBC and I can tell you that at the branch I work we have over 40 bags currently in our back room as we don't have room in our regular vault, we have no method to weigh the bags we just accept them as long as they look filled to the line on the bag. I must say that it is very far from an exact science with most bag being filled much beyond the line. If you need penny bags just ask at the bank and they will give you a heavy duty bag and then you can stop wasting time rerolling all the pennies you sort through.

Thats cool, again too late for me, but I like this much better than rolling. I dont care if I'm off my $2 or even $4...id rather take 5 minutes to fill a bag of $25, instead of taking 50 minutes to roll the same amount

Fuzzy: Do you guys have clear plastic rolls in the states? You can see what shouldn't be in there.

You could just use elastic bands to group the rolls into blocks?

Petersun, you are not reading, these bags are for loose cents, just fill to the line.

Not for rolls.

I LOVE THESE BAGS! Heck ya baby.....so much time saved and easier to carry. My wife loves it because its easy for her to carry and she doesn't have to look at all the empty boxes in the bottom of the closet. I don't mind if its $2 over....well worth it. Wish they would have had these bags a lot sooner. Had 16 boxes sitting in my garage waiting to be sorted as of the last day of the penny.....have 6 boxes left. Happy hunting!
