Nice coin. They call that an Obv 1a now. There are some nice date spacings that year.

 Hello Devlec, my 1886 cent is not a very expensive coin (only $1,200.00), I'd love to pair it up with your Obv. #1. I paid near 80% trends for it since I needed to upgrade my MS-62 R/B. (beggars are not choosers) When you are ready to sell the Obv. #1, let me know! Glenn  |

That is an extremely nice coin. I have only seen two other 86 obverse 1a cents in 64 (mine and one other). Yours makes three. I would guess in today's market, about a $3,000 coin. I know of none in 65 or higher. Here is mine (PCGS 64 Red) for comparison.  |

Thanks bosox, for the comparison pics of yours and a very interesting difference in colour between the 2 coins also. As you've just shown us, it's a very tough coin in high grade.
Do you use multiple lighting sources to achieve the lack of shadows on your perfect pics?
I will do my best to get better pics like yours,..but naturally I won't be removing them from the flip and it will be in the future for now.
Is it worth it to get a PCGS cross-grading on key coins?

The difference is color is real I think. Although mine is red, yours has more luster than mine. I do use two light sources.
Crossing mint state red cents from ICCS to PCGS is very difficult. They each grade on different criteria. ICCS grades technically on luster, surfaces, and strike. ICCS will give the red designation to a 50% red coin. PCGS grades on luster, surfaces, strike, and eye appeal. They require 90%, or more, red for a red designation. ICCS is death on minor surface marks. PCGS is death on carbon spotting.
ICCS always used to be much tougher on mint state copper, until about four years ago. Now, in my opinion, ICCS has gotten much easier and PCGS has gotten much tougher on these coins.
Having said these things, I think our respective coins would cross at 64 red. The carbon spots on yours would keep yours from going to 65 red at PCGS. The duller luster on mine would keep mine from 65 red at ICCS.

One other thought. If you succeed in crossing any of your coins to PCGS, they will cut them out of the ICCS holders. IF YOU ASK, they will send you back the ICCS certification tag, but then it is not positively tied to the coin. In other words, the coin is in the PCGS plastic and your ICCS cert does not reference the PCGS number. To get that, you would then have to send it back to ICCS.

My photo skills are not up to the lofty standards showing here. I feel that I did a great job on the flip printing, but at the expense of the actual coin. I'll work at getting the best coin pics possible in a bit.

Why do you think PCGS doesn't cross-grade? How hard would adding ICCS number in the comment be?

They will cross grade and return the original ICCS cert (or NGC or any other grading service), if you ask for it to be returned. They do not reference other grading services cert number on the PCGS tag. I suspect that they just do not want to have coins cross refeenced to their competition.
