Quote: Is it maybe time for mandatory mental health evals for all SilverTowne management staff members? Im not sure whats going on with them lately but theyre turning into some of the worse offenders for price gouging. They have some good prices on the graded coins but their bullion prices are getting absurd and were never the lowest. I've never been happy with any of their raw numismatic coins as well. I like them for Graded coins especially the 70s they have some of the lowest prices out there and you can find real good deals on some of them, but dont use them for anything else. On the bright side they dont really hassle you if you want to return something. Seeing that email however I did lose some respect for them and view them in a bit of a different light now

I am of the belief most silver sellers are hoping this is a bump and the price will recover. I also think they are trying to keep the price higher to clear inventory they bought at $30+. Lets face it we are all holding silver we bought at $30+ and would be hard pressed to smile and hand it across the counter for $26 or $27.
What I don't like in this - is them trying to sell silver they don't have at prices that aren't supported by the current cost. It appears many are trying to profit quickly on the price change - knowing they will eventually have to sell at lower prices.
Since I hold my silver - hedging towards it eventually being higher value - I hope it goes lower and lower again. I liked buying silver when it was $9 an ounce... and will do so again if it goes there.

No wonder they arent in any rush to speed up minting them if theyre only making 50 cents a coin

Premiums are so overrated. It's borderline insulting to me when spot drops fast and dealers premiums go up. Everyone wants to make a buck - I get it. Local coin show dealers who I know are asking me $5 bucks with a straight face when I bought ASE's before for $2 bucks over spot. I'm not mad, I understand they have to make a living but it's frustrating sometimes when I want to acquire some silver on the cheap.

Thought I saw that published in the requirements but obviously that was some time ago. Price not currently listed so your info is more up to date. They still have to come up with a chunk of money to place an order for a minimum of 25,000 ASE's at a time. http://www.usmint.gov/consumer/Silv...irements.pdf

A-Mark is an authorized Mint purchaser and this is what they charge LCS's that buy from them. Each step someone has to make some money to pay the light bill. http://www.amark.com/

I think everyone should take a deep breath, and calm down. Prices will go back up. We are Humans not lemmings or rats to be led by hysteria, or the pied pipers like Yup. If so many people didn't pay attention to them their heads wouldn't get so big. Don't go running off a cliff because people around you are doing it. PM's ARE MONEY. Don't give it away because of ignorance. I really don't care what the dollar amount is for my real money anyway. The dollar is failing. It's like trying to mold your character after a crack addict, you'll never be able to keep up.

Theyre something that can be exchanged for money. Theres no evidence that the dollar is failing. You say not to be led by hysteria then come in saying the same fear mongering things with out any evidence that creates the hysteria

Outfits like APMEX are boosting premiums to compensate for lower metal prices. Plain and simple! At the same time, most of their Silver is mysteriously "out of stock". Clearly they do not want to sell it. I want Silver prices to go through the floor, but I doubt I'd be able to get any if they did! I wish the mint would just sell ASE's directly to the public and keep the dirty, filthy, stinking, greasy, money-grubbing dealers out of it!

"I wish the mint would just sell ASE's directly to the public and keep the dirty, filthy, stinking, greasy, money-grubbing dealers out of it!" The US Mint does sell ASEs (both proof and uncirculated) directly to the public. You should check their website.

Quote: How to Buy American Eagle Bullion Coins
Aside from the proof version, the United States Mint does not sell American Eagle Bullion coins directly to the public. Instead, the Mint distributes uncirculated Bullion coins through a network of wholesalers, brokerage companies, precious metal firms, coin dealers, and participating banks, a network known as Authorized Purchasers. -- as seen here.

I stand corrected. They sell the proof and the "Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set" direct, but not bullion ASEs outside of that set.

It wouldn't cost effective for the US Mint to sell directly to the public unless they slapped on a really high premium.

I have noticed this with goldmart way before even price of silver going down, they do not have any junk silver (well almost nothing at the time). I have mentioned on other threads who is buying all the 'junk silver'? Prices on these all still about the same before the drop, maybe around $100-200 difference as most have jack up the premiums. I am talking about the $100 bag silver (mercury dimes, Kennedy halves and any other). I like to look through these for varieties.
