There is die wear on the devices toward the rim. On the image of IN you can see the die flow from the tops of these devices. The images seem normal in size from what I can see.

On the 1983P-1do-001 you can see the devices enlarged.

The thing you need to keep in mind is the devices are conical. In other words cone shaped. the largest part is next to the field, and the smallest is the top surface of the device. This is to make it harder for the planchet to stck to the die after striking. Because of this shadows and lighting can play heck on the eyes.

You can tell by the shadows and lighting in the first pics that it is not a DD. I always try to think in my head if this was a real DD where would the light be hitting the split seriffs and where would there be shadows.

What are you taking your pictures with. The last one is very nice.

The one thing I still do not understand is what is that to the bottom left of the "L" in the first picture It does look like some kind of doubling...

I think that is just Die Deterioration playing tricks with your eyes. Look at the first pic in the second batch of photos. What you see in the photo you are referring to is not visible in the one I am referring to.

i see what you mean the pic you can see it in isn't a straight shot I rotated the coin from the 9 position to the 10. One more question if the doubling or a DD if the error/variety cant be seen from a straight picture with zero angle will it still be considered a error/variety. I hope I made sense I'm tired from working in this heat my brain is fried.

There are some RPMs that are hard to see when shooting straight on shots. A rule of thumb, for me at least, I need to see it straight on. Now I have rotated the coin four times before 90 degrees each time and taking a photo each time. My light source stays the same, but the area that is hit by the most light changes when I rotate. Of course I reorient the photo to the correct orientation before posting photos online. Another tip I learned Coop is my coin is not sitting flat under my scope. It lies on a ramp that is about 15 degrees in pitch. This usually is not enough to distort the image, but allows for the light reflection to be controlled better somewhat.

I know I need a better photo setup, but I am working on a shoestring budget. I have managed to get one son through college. The other is a sophomore this year. So two years from now...Daddy is getting a new setup.

I know what its like being on a shoe string budget. I'm in the process of just dedicating my spare time to just search cents. So all my non Lincoln coins I'm gonna start selling so I can upgrade my camera and a new MD. I have a 16 year old and a 6 year old both girls and they always need something lol.

LOL, girls? I do not envy you AT ALL. Boys are easier and cheaper. So you are going Lincoln exclusive too, huh? Another victim...welcome to the club.

The Lincoln only club! I joined ages ago. Still have a few of the other denomination but no longer look for them.
