As our representatives become more "sensitve" and "politically correct", they are becoming just as stupid...proportionally. Nobody has guts to call a spade, a spade...or a duck, a duck. I would love to attend the ANA and give those wire-rim, I-can't-get-a-date ladies on the CCAC a piece of my mind about their comments that "liberty" is too political. As for our elected leaders, all of those representatives don't have a clue how their actions today will be laughed upon by future numismatics. Making the SAC and her kid "forever" on what is a decent dollar size/color with a great reverse is insane. Presidential dollars? don't make me go there. First ladies on coins? Just simply insane! As much as I love the Buffalo (as I grew up in Buffalo, NY), I guess bullion coins must contain animals only...or leaves. The hell with everything Teddy Roosevelt tried to achieve when he initiated an overhaul in US coin designs. He must be turning in his grave!

Is a commemorative coinage series depicting First Ladies one of the dumbest coinage ideas ever? Hmm, it actually is a contender. But putting Rutherford B Hayes, Warren Harding, Richard Nixon, and Lyndon Johnson on coinage is up there too.

I personally believe that NO coin should become permanent. One of the biggest insentives for putting together a set is because of the fact that they are no longer minted. I wouldn't be interested in collecting Shield nickels or Mercury dimes if they were still being minted. Perhaps the Jeff's & Rosie's would gain a bigger following if they changed them up. I would like to see coins change & grow, experiment with new designs & some old school also. You can't tell me that this country does not have the talent.

Are we allowed to use any of the first lady coins for target practice?

The following quote from Mark Twain is so appropriate-- "Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of congress. But I repeat myself"

The first reason the First Spouse coins WON'T be used for target practice is that they are GOLD! The second would be that they will not be readily available as NO one will be buying them! Other than that enjoy your target practice.

You'd have to have pretty good aim to use the First Lady coin for target practice- either that or really good eyesight! Seeing as how I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, I'd be impressed by anyone who could do that! Rachel [:p]

Kyra I can take out that coin at 100 yds with one shot! Not bragging as I just have invested in the right equipment that makes this possible, even for an old man like me! As in anything, the more the money invested, the better the equipment and quality. So let me know when you get your first gold spouse and we will get together for a little target shooting! I regularly use a black stick-on dot, between the size of a nickel and a quarter, at a 100 yd range so this gold should be appropriate to my normal target!

Please use some Eisenhower dollars. Those things give me the creeps, and I bet you could hit them fairly readily with some #7.5 or 8 shot! ~neuron
