Thanks moejaber, I've had this coin long before the hoard was released. Wasn't really happy when then did that. That's a nice hoard coin you recently received. We both posted our coins at the same time, wasn't trying to use yours for comparison. The 1912-14 gold coins have always been one of my favorite Canadian coins because of there beauty. Congrats on the coin you recently received.

yeah it was funny how we posted our coins at the same time! but seriously your coin is by far the best I've personally seen. Much nicer than all the coins I received from the mint! and I agree these coins are gorgeous! I used to collect sovereigns but after these came out I lost all interest in sovereigns.

AU58,doesn't appear to have any circulation wear, looks like the lustre has been compromised by improper handling.
Maybe it's just the pic.How does it appear in hand?

Thankyou for your opinions. Actually the coin has full lustre. It shows a small amount of rose color toning on the reverse. Dosn't look like this coins lustre shows in the pictures. Typically these gold coins are quite "baggy" and I have noticed the recently released BOC hoard coins were mostly like that. This coin has nice fields and few contact marks. In hand it has lustre on all devices including the face and beard. I have included a couple more pictures to try show the coins lustre. It it changes your opinions let me know. Sometimes we think our coins are better than they really are, maybe this coin isn't as good as I think it may be.

I would go MS-63. The picture and plastic are hiding the lustre a bit. Some toning in the fields and on design. Very few contact marks and can't see the wear.

Depending on the luster factor, which is hard to determine from mere photos, this coin looks to be in the 62-63 range...ICCS fwiw. I have non-hoard coins graded by ICCS and for example my MS62 has fewer contact marks than the hoard coins, but it lacks the outstanding luster of the hoard coin that makes up for the more frequent contact marks typical of the hoard coins.

how come the hoard coins have so much bag marks?[i]

I'm guessing when they were being transported and/or counted over the years, the bags are about the size of a football and the guys tossed them to each other.

@tripoli... The hoard coins do have outstanding lustre. They are what I would call "fresh" coins, as they were in mint bags untouched since 1935 or earlier. Kinda like opening a original roll of silver dimes or quarters, all the coins have that "fresh" look. This coin of mine has been in the wild for the past 99 years transferring from probably a few collectors over the years. It probably grades as good as most of the hoard coins but lacks that "fresh" look.
