Obverse-limited; I'm thinking 45 at best. Not that I'd turn it down.

I'll go with AU-50. Does anybody else think that it looks like its been cleaned?

I'd be thrilled to receive that as a Christmas present!

AU-50. I'll speculate that it get 5 points for eye appeal/originality otherwise it would be a XF-45 IMO.

I'll go with EF-45. I think the coin has a little too much wear on the head(some of the lack in details is partly due to strike), breast, knee, and eagle's feathers for a 45 but it still has remnants of mint luster which I think may boost it bit.

I think the best this coin should pull is a 45. It's probably technically somewhere between 40 and 45. Personally I wouldn't pay AU money for it even if the slab says AU.

Now, all that being said, the coin has stunning eye appeal and you are a great son for getting dear old Dad such a nice gift! I love the coin and would welcome it to my collection any day. He will surely be happy with it.

with D0ubl3Eagle and jpbone EF45 possibly cleaned not that it really matters, the hairlines show, but I still see a lot of luster poking through especially on the reverse in the hidden recesses. Very nice coin regardless.

EF45 with eye appeal that's off the charts and after all, that's what coin collecting is all about.

I'm going with EF-40 (details) for the obverse scratches.

Here she is. Just for reference the scratching isn't really even visable under a 10x loupe. I believe this is a product of harsh lighting and digital photography. I almost feel like this one could get a green bean.
This is not a particular series my dad collects. I'm making an effort to open his eyes a bit to series other than Morgans haha (not knocking morgans I love em)

Sweet! 40 sounds right to me. I never got into Morgans. I have quite a few, but never could get addicted like I have almost all other series. Maybe this will divert his attention. A lot of Morgan collectors like them because they are old, plentiful (for the most part) and still available in mint state white clean and lustrous. This coin should make him appreciate true toning on an old coin. Picture a Morgan with similar toning. Do you think it would be sought after like this half? It's just a matter of time before I get bit by the Morgan bug.

Possibly slightly darker than the first pics suggest.
