Looks like it was a weak strike for sure. I'd say boderline 20, more likely a 15.

I would think it's a lock at F-15 and probably better than average shot at VF-20.

Nice coin! I was looking at a 1991 issue of COINage last night and couldn't believe how 1893CC dollars have rocketed in price since then - there is an advertisement for one in VG for $36.25 and in F for $55. In fact they were the cheapest of all the 1893 mints. Got a time machine anyone?

I think PCGS plays conservative and puts it into an F15 holder, although a step either way wouldn't amaze me. Have a look for obvious profile doubling especially below the nose, where it would "wear" the best.

It looks VF20 to me. F15 if going conservative. Nicely free of any deep marks or distractions, I would hope you'd get a break with a VF20 grade. The very little used F18 grade is likely what it really should be.

It's been awhile since I started this thread but here is an update. NGC graded this at VF30 which is right where I thought it would grade looking at other 1893-cc's in holders and accounting for strike weakness. My favorite Morgan dollar by far.

This looks almost identical to a 93-CC that I got yesterday. I would go with F15, with a chance of VF20. I will post mine to the forums later today to see what the consensus on my CC's are.

I hadn't seen this thread last fall, but my first reaction today was that the detail remaining in the cotton bolls says VF range, although VF30 seems on the generous side. Although the "book" jump in value from F to VF for this issue is nominal, given that grade, I'd never consider cracking it out.

VF30? Seriously? Wow, I never would have gone above VF20 on that coin.

VF30 was generous, I was at VF20 max
I usually give pics like this +/- a grade leeway, so I guess it's in the ballpark.

Congrats!

F-15's a lock - it has a good shot at making VF-20

I was thinking VF-20, maybe 25. Getting a 30 seems a tad generous to me also.

Regardless, an attractive and original example; wish I had one!
