I have no plans to sell it at the moment. I'm working on a complete Barber quarter set and I still think this is one of the nicest pieces in the collection. I got the PCGS grades about a year ago and it has taken me this long to calm down to a point that I can have a rational discussion about it:) |

It's funny, I looked at this coin and instantly thought MS-Details, cleaned. I then did a double take and thought I was being too judgemental... still a nice looking coin though, and I'm not sure why they said AU and not MS  |

j-win, looking close now, I think I see a bit on wear on the eagle's tail but don't understand the cleaning designation. Perhaps a small, ancient wipe?

I'm not even sure, just something about the toning made me think it was possibly cleaned. I feel like TPG's are somewhat lenient on silver coins though, so I wouldn't have been suprised if PCGS had graded it MS64. |

I'd say 58+. Don't get the cleaning unless there are hairlines that aren't visible.

I was thinking MS64 with a chance at 5. Can't see wear or cleaning signs.

No, I don't see cleaning, or any detectable wear at all. Maybe PCGS graders were having a bad day.
Crack it out and enjoy it, the coin doesn't deserve to be an AU in the first place, but then even CLEANED? Get it out of its plastic coffin. ;)

TPG's wimp out with Barber coinage sometimes, as they are so very difficult to differentiate wear from strike issues on the top edge and tips of the wings. It requires some careful study/headscratching of the cheek and other features, time a typical grader doesn't have with individual coins. I can see why they did so with this one. Not that I think PCGS got this one right, either in terms of grade or surface originality. |

I can understand an AU grade, but the cleaning is sill a mystery to me. I see many other coins in problem-free holders with more evidence of cleaning than mine. Here is such an example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321379248550I am a fan of PCGS and I know they can't be right all the time, but this one really bothers me. I may crack it out at some point and see what NGC does with it. |

I believe it suggests some sort of trace elements of dip still left on it thats causing the toning if the toning has kind of a glow (for lack of a better word) to it when you move it around under light. |

The PCGS photos show muted luster which may be why they decided it had been cleaned. Your photos however show abundant luster which appears unbroken across the fields. There is a bit of dull color on Liberty's cheek which could represent slight friction but that is about all I see that might indicate AU status.
This coin is of high-enough quality that it might be worth sending to NGC or ANACS for a second opinion. MS-64 would appear to be a reasonable grade based on your photos and there is a big price difference between MS-64 and AU Cleaned.
