Hi Nancy, the three nines on the top coin are noticeably different, is this just camera angle?
The tails appear to curl at a wider angle from acute to obtuse. My guess is from about 40 degrees to about 55 degrees. It can be seen in the picture of the dates you provide also, but less obviously.
On the first coin the tails curl in sequence from obtuse, average to acute.
On the second coin the 9's appear to be 2 of the acute type and one of the obtuse. [no middle]
Surely it is just the camera angle though. Or am I just mad?

As soon as I can, I'll dig them out and take some really close up shots of the dates. I have to admit the 9's do look a little different.

I have found 2 1999 small head tens and the 9 of the 19 appears to be a slightly different style to the 99 of the year. The 9's of the 99 have a slighly more acute angle to the curl, but this is making a very fine distinction. You can see this in Nancy's date comparison if you look hard enough.
It is like back in the days of hand punched dates where they had a universal 19 and just updated the year, I wonder if they did modify an old die. Seems unlikely to me.

The Large head (letters near the rim) is far more rare than the small head (far from rim). It has taken me a few years to find a large head at/near mint state.

@Mr.Tan what mean is close to rim not included in photo. But take alook of both coins it seems they are differrent between them on ELIZABETH II, one is far and one is middle.

If is true there three variety for this year?

I've only ever known about 2 varieties of this coin.

Here are some close-ups of the dates, one thing I can see is that the middle 9 appears to be smaller on both versions.

I have a container with 23 of the large head type and only 1 small head type, but I did a project on the errors to be found on this coin some time ago, and have another container somewhere with over 30 coins in it, so maybe some of those are small head.

The two that I know of have nothing to do with "Die pressures". The ten cent with letters close to rim touch the rim and the queen's head is larger. The one with the letters about 1mm away from the rim has a smaller queens' head-they are very different.

Correction-didn't see the previous post for some reason. The large obverse is rarer especially in anything in AU and above.

The other side of the coin (AUSTRALIA) seems to show a uniform distance though. Some of the 1999 coins have a double struck rim which makes it difficult to work out what you have.
I'm only aware of two varieties for the 10c.

jerry do you have a comparison photo of the small, medium and large heads?

There was one so called "Medium head noted by a dealer in Sydney-whether valid or not-don't know. However, only a large and small head have been recognized so far by PCGS.
The large head is scarce.

Really? Which dealer?
I did sort some 1999 $1 coins recently and the medium/large head difference isn't an easy one to pick.
