I like the denticles on Liberty's arm and belly.

I agree that it looks "off," but it's a pretty good fake if that it indeed is.

Isn't the uneven spacing of the denticles vis a vis the edge a red flag, at least for this late an issue?

I have no clue. Just the things I see and heard thats all I know. The things I check on these kind of coins. Is the weight, ping, magnet and thats it. And sometimes you see big stranges but with this coin not that much in first place.

I don't like the weak 'E' and 'L' of 'ONE DOL' - it doesn't look like genuine wear, and I'd have expected a genuine weak strike to have affected other parts of the design. But I agree - it's a very good forgery.

The alibaba coin also has the weak E and L along with the large period after Dol.

Thanks for posting this piece. The edge cuts were perhaps inflicted to see if it was silver plated. What's the weight?

Thanks all for the comments. I am not home at this moment. I have some of the coins with me but not this particulair piece. If I am correct it weights like 1 gram less. But because of the edge has some damage. It could of been like 1 gram that was missing. If I am home in 2 weeks I try to make pictures of the edge aswell.

52Raymo can you post a picture of the alibaba coin? for coomparing?

I'd like to see the alibaba coin as well. This is a rather impressive fake. If the weight was correct and struck from the proper alloy I would probably have accepted it. The odd field texture tot he left of the wing is a little odd but not enough for me to condemn it. But a second coin with the exact same contact marks and weaknesses would.

Would also be good to know the exact weight.

Try this...ht tp://w ww.aliexpress.com/item-img/1843-Seated-Liberty-Dollar/755392856.html

Looks like you'll have to remove some spaces out of the link.

I have an feeling for your example is used another material. More darkness on one side. But the E from one dollar has some wear aswell.

Chinese counterfeiters are known to use different metals with the same dies.

However, as far as counterfeits go, that's a beauty. :-)

I tryed with paint to compare them. But the kind of image aint working to post.

The E looks different then the S. If you take an closer look. So it aint exactly the same I think.. The S is indeed both whe an small cut on the same place.

Hello, I did put it on a scale. It weights 25,78 Grams.
Normal weight of these coins is 26,73 grams.
