First thought was MS68 - however I do now see the light scuff on the cheek hidden by the toning, I think this one got a MS67+ at least, the 1880-S is pretty common in very high grade, I've had them up to MS68 in the past see: https://goccf.com/t/163942This coin is pretty close to my MS68 but I would need an in hand inspection before calling it that nice! Could use a slightly stronger strike on the obverse as well. Whatever the grade - this is one sweet Morgan dollar! with tons of eye appeal! And maybe even as nicer than my old MS68. EDIT- I'm calling MS68 on this one! I just can't find a reason to not call it that after studying it for awhile. I'd even bet CAC would agree!

I'll join the MS-67 camp.
Not many contact marks, but it does have the distracting toning across the cheek.

A really nice coin, the breast feathers aren't very clear but what the heck, there are very few contact marks and it has spectacular eye-appeal. MS-66+ for sure, 50% chance at a 67.

Little too much obverse chatter for me unless that's the plastic.

ok, now on to the results. Westcoin should have stuck with his initial guess. This is a PCGS graded MS-68 CAC approved. I have to be honest now, I don't actually own this coin but found it on Harlan J. Berk's website. He's a dealer here in Chicago. I thought the coin was an awesome piece but a little surprised at the grade due to the same reasons everyone else stated. My guess is that coin in hand will look a lot better. I may have to stop in just to take a look. Here's a link to the actual coin http://www.hjbltd.com/unitedstatesc...ce&linenum=8.

I would be more comfortable if it was a MS67 or 66... I'm not sure about a 68 with that nasty scuff on the reverse.

Quote: Westcoin should have stuck with his initial guess. I did and called CAC approval if it had been submitted to them, bottom of my post edited before you posted grade. I said MS68 w/CAC! Not that I am always right though, I miss my fair share of them too. I'm not at all surprised by the grade, probably a technical MS67+ but the color kicks it up another point, and so eye appealing that CAC thought enough to give it a green bean. Don't see many Morgans quite this beautiful. For everyone out there on ebay land calling their dollars superb and original, I point them to a coin like this, and 99.9% of the time the coin in question would fall down when placed next to a monster like this 1880-S.

Westcoin, I comletely missed it in your post. So sorry about that. Great job on the grade. I went over the HJB over my lunch yesterday and you are correct. This is a monster coin. The photos don't do it justice. For those (which included me) that thought it might have been a little over graded. Not a chance. That's one very cool Morgan.
