My fear is I break it out and send it only to come back as a regular grade. Possibly lower. I dont know how pcgs works, but I almost wanted to ask them to look at it first, and if they would cross it over, maybe pay them extra to break it out while there. I'm sure they wont do that. I lnow all TPG differ in opinion, but I thought the big ones pretty much based their grading on the same standards? I have a hard time really telling the difference in MOST pl and dmpl coins. I see some with regular grades that are more pl then a pl graded coin? And some pl coins that are more then dmpl?

Why spend extra money on something you are not really sure of. If it comes back with a lesser grade, you not only loose the grading cost but loose some of the value of the coin. Nothing gained.

If I'm not mistaken, with crossovers you don't break out the coin. If I had a coin that came back "details" from one grader, and I wanted another opinion, then I'd break it out and send it raw, so as not to influence second grader. So in your case, if it wouldn't cross over it'd still be in the holder, but you'd be out the grading $.

These older ANACS holders are pretty well respected, I would just leave it be. If you were going to try to cross-over I certainly would not crack it out and regrade.

And no, ANACS is certainly not a basement slabber. And I have heard people on this board say they are their top trusted TPG for Morgans.

ANACS seems to be the the best when it comes to Morgans including VAMs based on what I hear on this forum.
ANACS is not a basement slabber; they have got a legitimate website: anacs.com
ANACS existed even before PCGS and NGC. They are "America's oldest grading service."

I have 52 Morgans in front of me, and I would be fibbing if I told you that my PCGS coins pass the eyeball test head and shoulders above NGC and ANACS. In fact, ANACS has earned my respect due to a more conscious focus on sound, conservative grading of late. My NGC coins are probably the best from all 3. Granted, I only collect (or keep) Morgans that grade out at > or = MS64, and the MS64 is a grade where a "Low" 64 and a "High" 64 could be the result of getting either end of the spectrum from my collection of coins, but 52 coins represents a fairly decent sample size.

I just don't buy into the whole PCGS thing, but this is probably due to my lack of interest in the resale market. By cherry picking Excellent high grade coins from ANY of these 3 TPG's, I feel that I "bought the coin, not the holder" in most instances. I even have an NGC MS-63 1878-S Morgan that is NOT an MS-63!

I vote for keep the coin in its place. I personally might even reholder it at ANACS, and it would get the BLUE ANACS holder (I personally like that one)....but this is not a popular move on this board, and it honestly probably is not financially either - just a personal preference.

Why do you want to cross this coin over? I would leave it as-is.

From the experience of owning a few of the old Anacs holders, I will surmise that the OP senses that the OLD ANACS holder is an unusually tiny coin holder, off-white and perhaps discolored with age, with bumps and bruises along the outer edges of the plastic case, and overall - these old ANACS holders just seem almost "cheap" in their construct; I went through the smae psychological challenge with myself, and succumbed by having mine reholdered into the ANACS Blue Holders.

So, if it makes you happy, send it back to ANACS or another TPG; probably the best advice you got was to keep it exactly as it is though.

ANT that dollar you show looks very nice and I think would upgrade in a PCGS holder. That said I like the older ANACS holders the best for size and storage space in my deposit boxes or safe. They take up a lot less room.
