But aren't cleaned coins already priced a grade or two down already? As in AU details priced like vf-30? So in that sense what is gained?

in general a better appearing coin with a better chance of selling in the future. a lot of people will not even consider a coin if they hear or see the word cleaned

You will have a problem-free coin, one or two points lower than before carrying it around.
And, many people will prefer an original coin in a lower grade, and avoid coins that are high-grade but cleaned/polished.

Good to know! One more question, would it be better to carry it in a pocket with other coins, or simply by itself?

With other coins. It's the contact between them in your pocket which does the work of restoring the pocket piece.

The Accelerated method:

Place coin(s) in a bag (canvas preferred) with about 200+ old wheat cents. Hold bag with both hands and manipulate back and forth like a slinky.

I took a cleaned morgan and sowed ir into a denim square. In it I put 5 single cents and 2 dimes. I put another piece of denim cut into a 2 inch square. All of this went into my sons rock tumbler at the lowest speed. In the beginning I checked it constantly. Then daily. I dont remember how long it took but that coin passed every dealer who saw it. I'm actually doing it again now and photo documenting it.

Maybe you could just leave them in your pants every time you send them through the wash?

@SeatedNut, what were your results with the "Accelerated Method" I want to try it with a cleaned Morgan. One concern I have is that if you wear down a coin to quickly, even with a natural approach like yours, will a natural patina fill in?

In other words, will the results of this method be a problem-free EF instead of a cleaned AU, or a cleaned EF instead of a cleaned AU?

I think I might experiment using some cleaned junk silver coins I have before I try it on a Morgan dollar.

Used twice on Morgans with hairlines from cleaning. Both started in PCGS AU53 details "Cleaning" holders. Returned after treatment XF45. Experiment with some junk first to see results.

If there are major gouges or filed rims, this won't cure those ills.

How long did your accelerated slinky method take, seated?

That all depends on the degree of "cleaning" to the coin. Very light rub lines can disappear in about 10 minutes. A wire brush job would probably take days to overcome, if at all. So the answer to your question is "between 10 minutes and a week."
