I have better luck when I schedule ebay 7-day auctions to end on Sunday evenings, 6 to 8 pm Pacific Time.

One thing for sure......coins take better pictures out of the 2x2's!! So thanks for that advice.
Now I'm going to try ending in Sunday 6-8 pacific time. Thanks a bunch!

.....and 4.12 shipping is extremely high. That in itself will limit bidding as buyers will factor that in or just avoid bidding altogether. You'll notice that you're getting dinged on your shipping (less than 5 stars).

I have also found 3 Mercury dimes in circulation. I don't know how much the OPs coins are worth. On the USA coin book site, they list for $6-$8 a piece for MS-60 grade. I get $3-$4 a piece for most Mercury dimes in some circulated grade which is over melt.

from looking at the pics... here is what I didn't like..
the 2x2's are awful...
putting "WOW" and over inflated prices on the flips, just scream "ripoff"
it is obvious that the flips were marked up just to try to sell them.
flips should have coin info only..

it comes across as a typical ebay ripoff sale. You should avoid that appearance.

I left the 2x2's on there because when I initially came to this site for suggestions on helping my aunt sell, it seemed the most important advice was to be careful with them and NOT to clean, & sell slowly. So I figured removing them out of the protective covering wouldn't be the best. By the way, I didn't write all the stuff on there.

The OP asked for advice, and seems to ignore it. Oh well. Or, oh WOW!

Jimbucks & any others who find it necessary to make unnecessary comments. I didn't ignore the helpful advice. I had a few listings saved in my draft folder on ebay already (saved before I asked this question) my next listings don't have 2x2's. I come here to seek advice for help. I listen and take advice from those I feel are sincere and feel as though they are truly helping. I "try" to ignore cynical and critical replies usually. I didn't realize some people just can't ignore or overlook things but truth be told, I bet if I had something for sale you collected and wanted with "wow" on it for .99 cents the cheesy words on the 2x2's wouldn't bother you as bad now would it?(which I will clarify again I didn't write those words) With that said, if a newbie comes here and asks a question, it is unnecessary for the ugly replies. It really is off putting more than my 2x2's, I can assure you of that.

I don't think that the problem you are having as far as lack of sales is about what you are doing, or not doing. I think the main reason is that ebay itself is not an 'easy' score.

It's rare that I browse through ebay coin listings these days. Unless I am looking for something out of the ordinary I rarely find any coins that strike my interest, since most are priced way beyond my budget. Aside from the 1921 Mercury dimes, I can find almost any I need much cheaper at a local shop for less than $2.00 each. NO, I can't always find AU's at that price, but sometimes I can.

Now I'm not saying that nobody buys through ebay anymore; just that most offers get timed out. This goes for all sorts of items too; not just coins. I see too many items starting bids way too high to even bother with, and I think most of it is because of all the free listings. If free listings were cut down to just a few a month it would eliminate most of the overpriced offers.

There are many people who don't have alternate places to buy their needs, so ebay still is an important sales place. It just might take several times trying different things, but you will finally attract the right buyer.

Thank you atticguy. I agree, I'm finding ebay is the one that comes out on top. The fees make it difficult to buy & sell fairly. ebay takes a percentage of even the shipping fees! How they can get away with that I haven't a clue. I'm sure the rotten apples ruined it for people who charge shipping fairly. Anyways, thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

There's nothing wrong with Mercury dimes. This is one of the most popular series of U.S. coins. Many original rolls from the mid-thirties on, were saved, and the market remains glutted with BU specimens, now seventy years after their issue dates. This glut tends to depress book values, methinks. Choice BU Mercs can be gotten cheaply at shows. So, why pay the freight for common coins on ebay?

There are many closet collectors out there who live in a bubble, so to speak. They are the ones who buy these more common coins. They rarely network with other collectors at shows, clubs or even online. From what I've seen, these collectors are more likely to buy in the auction mode and tend to shy away from the BIN sales. I'd venture that this group is your prime sales target. A friend of mine has been selling BU Lincolns to these buyers for years, being very successful as a "power seller" on ebay.

Collectors will pay a premium for sharp, split bands, so good, reverse pics would likely result in sales of choice or better BU specimens. While some collectors may disdain the hype-writing on 2x2's or even slabbed coins, savvy collectors will look past the packaging and buy the coin.

Just Carl offered some good advice, Hammbone. Best wishes with your sales ... It's a learning process, and missteps are inevitable.

Exoguy, thank you for taking the time to give me great info on Mercury dimes along with past and current selling information. It helps to know these things especially for me since I don't know much, if any, about coins. I am going to relist and start low, no reserve and will make sure I remove those 2x2's with adjectives written on them. Thank you again.
