After 100+ years, it really is amazing how good of shape this coin has been kept in. Numismedia has it listed at $494 for it to be MS66RB.

Definitely a RB coin but still can't tell from pics as to grade. I'd say it has a nice shot.

This will be interesting for me to follow. Looking at the first set of pics I would say there's no way this doesn't get a details grade as cleaned but none of your pics are really good enough to tell.

I've taken about 70 shots under different lighting and still can't get one that makes me happy and truly shows the coin as it is.
I'm going to send it to NGC for grading and think I will pay for their photographic service as well since I can't get a good shot. From the information on their site they charge $15 for a high resolution PDF image of the coin.
I only paid $34 for the coin, so I figure it's worth the NGC investment money to see what they say.

The surface looks artificial.

It's heading off to NGC tomorrow, along with five other coins.
We'll see what they say. My fingers are crossed.

IndianGoldEagle and myself are seeing a totally different coin than everybody else so this will be very informative for me. Hope I'm wrong and it grades for you.

Those of you who said "Details" were right about this coin.
It came back today graded "AU - Whizzed".
While I was waiting for the coins to come back from NGC I looked at all the photos I'd taken of it and noticed what looked like some weakness in the first feather of the headdress. I started then to think that the coin wasn't mint state and something may have been done with it.
I was surprised it was whizzed since I thought that left fine marks on the coin.
A disappointment, but not a costly one, fortunately.
A lesson learned.

Sorry to hear, I was hoping I was wrong about the artificial surface. Hucksters are getting better at their trade these days. The coins whizzed back in the 70's and 80's were much easier to tell, brush marks could be seen around the lettering and close to the devices. This one looks pretty even through out the surfaces on both sides.

I never saw this topic, but when I first saw the coin, it did not look right. Almost said counterfeit, but the Longacre doubling on the reverse and the realistic date kept me from doing so. Then I saw your update on the following page. Sorry for such a disappointment, but there are lessons to be learned.
