I kind of skimmed over the first picture. Now that I have been chastised and looked closer, I see he is the author. Still not sure who he is

Fuzz, I am SOOOO sorry, I thought you were being cute, exspecialy saying you are new. He published a hand full of books back during the world war two era when printing was quite scarce. I always assosiaye him with his book of Japanese coinage.
He was also quite the dealer.

Harmonica,
Until I joined CCF, I was pretty much collecting by myself, without outside contact.

Thanks for the info

What I don't get is how a book giving to David Hall, ended up in a Reno,NV bookstore virtually unread?

Guess he's not a book person. That's about the time Al Gore was inventing the internet.

Is it David Hall the numismatist or David Hall the periodontist?

Everyone is looking at me, cannot hear a word they are saying, driving around in Jon Voight's car...

Here's an informative link with info on Norman Stack: http://www.nytimes.com/1992/11/09/o...e-coins.html

Unfortunately, it's his obituary.

PS: The book mentioned is a nice volume that essentially illustrates a US Type Set (using high-grade examples of each type). Interestingly, it came with three index cards - one for copper and nickel coins, one for silver coins and one for gold coins - that were meant to be used by the purchaser as a "database" for keeping track of their growing collection.
