As some of you know, I am trying to collect as extensive a collection of nickels errors from circulation as I can as a goal. Are clashed dies like this considered an error, die state or something else?

Error. As you know a planchet wasn't where it was needed allowing the dies to clash. Coins struck subsequently bear witness to the minting error. I'd say add these to your list. I'm appreciating these errors more for nickels and cents. Fun to hunt for and sweet to find. But I'll take in any denomination.

Thanks for the overlay Coop!
Thanks Junjun!
Rackster, where did you find the 1984 on the website? It looks like you are looking under the "Atypical" link, but I don't see 1984. I only see 1983 and then it skips to 1988. The one you linked is close, but mine shows the "M" to the left of Jefferson's head.

I think yours is a little stronger and slightly rotated. I'm thinking it's different and probably worth BJ's attention. Send CoC some pic's and see where it takes you (attribution I think). OK - now my secret but promise not to tell. I use the Search tool. The scrolling dropdown is sometimes a pain to navigate with the touchpad so I usually do a search and take a look at the hits. Works fairly well...and it save me from frustration.

Well, shoot! The "Search Tool"......i hope the NSA doesn't find out you're telling secrets here! LOL I guess I was searching too specifically. I typed in 1984 and found it thanks!
While I'm sounding like an idiot..... Who is BJ and what is CoC?
Thanks for all of the help and guidance! :)

Agrippa - BJ Neff, one of the principal organizers of the site. He works alongside Mike Diamond and others to support a series of sites dedicated to our numismatic interests. Cuds on Coins, Traildies, and MAD Die Clashes are a few I frequent. You'll see Contact and Submission links on all of their sites - you can post a message to the team there and they should get back to you. Personally speaking and by observation here, it appears that BJ does the majority of monitoring the Contact messages. Normally a quick response. I have noticed a few identified coins that are near duplicates, and as I recall, the difference of a few degrees of rotation and design transfer details. I think yours will merit a similar write-up. I also think we are very lucky to have sites like these to refer to...and to add to. These sites help to characterize our coin collecting interest and help to expand it. I also believe that it will positively impact the value of coins like yours. I think it increases how desirable a specimen can be thus boosting an asking price.

Perfect! Thanks guys for all of the information. I have a couple of weeks off coming up. I hope to do some coin catching up then. I'll add getting some good pictures of this coin to my "to do" list and see what they say! Your help is much appreciated!
