Considering the standards that ICCS uses I grade Canadian coins using ANA standards, then lower it ½ to 1 whole grade. That would make this coin XF-45 or AU-50.

I thought the grading on this was rather harsh. Thanks for the input. Looks like it might be worth re-submitting this one

Whoa... EF-40? That is really harsh. This deserves atleast an AU-50.

Obviously the "20 cent expert" had called in for a "sick day" at ICCS. I also wonder how far back that coin was graded. So far 'off base' that it's scary.. All grading companies are dropping the puck far to often to instill any confidence any more.. It damages the hobby...

Judging by the picture provided, there is a clear lack of sharpness in the rear hair area, and in the braid detail. By older (more conservative) ICCS standards, it's an EF-40. The reverse is excellent, but the established pattern for wear on the obverse holds the coin back. It's a great example of how ICCS grades, and for demonstrating how little the reverse factors into the grade.

Judging by the pics supplied there is a weakness in the hair braid as is often seen even up to near unc examples. The eyelid shows a touch of flatness that should see a grade of at worse 45 or 50,..but never 40.. IMHO...but then again...I'm not a grader....

Nice coin, if someone offered this coin to me at full Trend for VF-40, I would have my wallet out quickly.
