Left has a die rotation, maybe exaggerated by the position but it is there, 15%, good eye.

I can't tell the early Specimen, Proof, or Proof-likes. I do know that later SP are made with polished fields, but the early ones have a mirror field too like PR and PLs. Any first strikes have a cameo to them. Hopefully someone who knows will share once it is revealed which is which

I also went with SP on the right, because the feathers appear to have more detail, and because you listed SP first. Unless you're using double-reverse psychology.

So it looks like Paulsz was the only one to get it .... wrong. But I like your attitude in bucking the trend. My psychological tricks did not sway the votes. Here is a shot of the coins in holders. Specimen was on the right, Proof on left. Distinguishing features noted; -> more definition on the goose' back as well as the queens cheek and neck - UncleLuc-> because the feathers appear to have more detail - kbbpll Thanks for participating, and compliments on the dollars. Oh and by the way, this is my 500th Post. PROOF SPECIMEN Thanks for the fun.

My determining factor was by looking at the rim. On the Proof, the rim is rounded. On the Specimen, it is more on the square side. It shows up more on the Obverse side.

SilverDon, if you can take larger pics of the obverse, like you did for the reverse, I would appreciate it

Thanks for the pics SilverDon. I can see the Specimen one is clearly struck better.

When did we start calling proof-like (PL), proof?
PL < SP < PF

That would have been me starting that, the title should have read Proof Like vs Specimen. It is a PL coin.

I think PL was always a misnomer. It should have been called SL (specimen-like). The reason PL came about was specimens tended to be brilliant finish (no cameo) and proofs had cameo. The PL cameo is an artifact of the way the dies were prepared. The dies were NOT deliberately prepared to generate cameo, and the affect only lasts for a small number of strikes. But, people thought it looked a little like proof when it had a cameo, and so Charlton coined the term "proof-like". Of course, the RCM never referred to them as proof-like, or anything other than selected uncirculated.

Some contend that PLs go back to the 1949 Commemorative Dollar. I like the PL strikes, mirror fields and cameo devices and legends. The definition of Specimen has changed over the years as well, in the 70's brilliant devices on brilliant background. Now reverse proof.
