Nice key date. I agree with MeadowviewCollector on the grade, either XF-45 or AU-50. Lightly cleaned long ago but I don't think that will stop it getting a problem free grade.

I think obverse looks 45 and reverse looks 55, I'll say AU 50. Nice coin

I'd venture EF45+ with a very light old cleaning. John Ford Jr. once said he only considered a coin cleaned if it looked cleaned anything else is conservation, I tend to agree with him, the potential old cleaning really doesn't apply on coins like this one.

It is ex Norweb Sale 1988. They had two specimens of this date/mm. This one was described in the catalogue as EF40. I would hope you have the auction documentation that shows it's provenance from the Norweb sale, was it from Norweb's collection directly, or just an add in consignment? Do you know? I wonder if you could get this in a TPG slab with a label stating Ex-Norweb that alone would surely add value to the coin's value. Though from all the cool coins you've posted over the past year or so, I'd venture that a label that states Ex-GERMANICVS Coll. would also be pretty cool , there are a few Federal era coins you've posted I'd surely love to have in my collection.

I agree with fayette1800. XF45 OBV. AU55 REV. net it at AU50. If it was cleaned it was a while ago and was not done maliciously. Looks perfectly market acceptable. Another winner

This was lot 1610 from that sale, which I imagine was actual part of the Norweb holdings - If otherwise, I would think Bowers would have indicated as much. Also, no mention in the catalogue of other holdings being jointly sold in the sale. In any case, it was just a minor coin in that incredible sale - but I was happy to get it, and at a very affordable price too ($160 + commission). (the stains visible in the picture turned out to be just surface deposits which came off easily - I guess they were part of the provenance too!)
