I am taking a short break, ( to clear my desk), so I can get another $50.00 checked. I don't have any more room!

I think CC said to submit results to him by email by the end of January, but he probably won't respond because he's moving across country.

Hello penny people,

Doesn't look like there's been any activity here for a couple of weeks. I only started reading up on the cent project just recently. It's really caught my attention. Sounds like you guys have had alot of fun at it!

I've been doing just a little coin roll searching lately. I know it's too late to participate in this but I'd like to learn more about what the results have been. Anyone know where I can go to see the final results, or are you not done yet?

I've also been joining in over on coppernickeldaddy's nickel project. My best two finds so far in that are a 1955 and a '38D nickel. But you guys don't want to hear about that here. So, I'll share my best cent find recently. On the same day I found the '38D nick I also found an 1897 Indian cent! Very cool, and by far the oldest coin I've personally found in circulation. Enough to make any cent lover happy! I don't know much about grading coins yet but I would estimate it to be in at least VG condition. Everythng on the coin is clearly legible.

There has not been much activity because right after I started the project my life took a huge turn-around, and I am still trying to get settled in. I started this project in October, and was offered a job in Florida in early November. I traveled back and forth to and from Florida during November and December, and moved here in January. I still have boxes to unpack, but am getting settled in and have been entering the completed data into the database. I should have something published by the end of March, which is only a couple of weeks past the original deadline.

As for current searches and numbers - I plan to open the project back up to volunteers for the 2008 count some time in July, after I get used to being here for a while. Last year's count was abbreviated by the move, by the fact that I came up with the idea and started the count too late in the year, and a number of other minor factors....like an overwhelming number of emails on the subject. This year should work out to be much better.

If you want to volunteer for this year's count, keep watch on the site, thecentproject.com, for a start date and how to volunteer. Once I get ready for it I will update the site again.

Thanks coppercoins.

I'll keep an eye on thecentproject.com for your updates. Sounds like a fun project to be in on. Besides, it would be easier to give my wife an excuse for my searching coins if I were involved in an "important cent survey project" !

What area of FL did you move to? I lived in the Naples area for 10 years. Not much I miss about it except for the fresh tropical fruit year-round. I now live a bout 1,000 miles form there in west KY. So, I can relate to what a big move like that can do to your world!

120 miles north - Sarasota. At least I'm north of something...

I kinda miss my winters. Other than that, the lakes, forests, real trees, fresh air, cold air, real grass, my family, everything else I know. I'm not a Floridian and probably never will be, but the money is good and there aren't too many really bad things about it.

Well, at least you're well within citrus country. Nothin better than fresh oranges right off the tree! Don't think you guys can grow mangos that far up the state. I had a couple of those trees in my yard. There's NO other way to have mangos than fully ripe off the tree!

Sorry, this is a coin forum, not a tropical fruit growers forum ! Can ya tell that's one of the things I miss about FL? Aside from that, I can easily list ten things I didn't like. I don't think I have to start listing for you to know what I mean.

One good consolation for you in FL? They be treasure to be found there! If I still lived there I'd be at those beaches at every opportunity with a metal detector. People lose ALOT of jewelry at the beach. Cold water makes fingers shrink. Not to mention the pile of clad that's lost every day. Also, FL has alot of history that goes way back. Spanish reales? Who knows? It's happened before!

I guess you could say that every cloud truely does have a SILVER lining ! Do you MD? If not maybe now might be a good opportunity to start. I didn't learn about the successes folks where having at the beaches until AFTER I moved away !

Cjuck, It is nice to see you are getting things slowly stashed, and hopefully getting the work end of it down pat, so you can do what you do best! One word of caution: Check the locals and find out what they reccomend for your situation, when the Hurricane season starts, June-novemver. It can get VERY nasty!
