To me it is still a long ways from being acceptable.
Have been doing about everything mentioned.
It might be at the point .. to make it a pocket piece.
Just thought I would see if there were any suggestion
I have forgot about .. or not tried.
It is no big deal .. I really don't have any money in it.
Just trying to make it better than it was.

Put it in the oven at 450. 15 minutes or so, that should get rid of that black corrosion on the coin. I don't see any active green corrosion so it should come out OK. If the black corrosion doesn't come off, you may need to use a Bunsen burner to get rid of it, only fire can stop active corrosion by producing Cu2O/CuO Cuprous/Cupric Oxide which will burn off from the surface of the coin. If the corrosion has eaten into the coin, it will leave the surfaces pitted. It does not appear that the black corrosion has eaten into the surface of your coin, so, you should be OK.

That's a great coin to experiment on. I like the details on it, and you've gotten some good suggestions. I'm tempted to pressure wash a really cruddy large Cent  |

I've used xylene, by mistake, indoors.

If you are doing things as an experiment maybe try to use iron out. I have a lot of iron in my water and I have to use it to clean my toilets once in a while. It works great and I don't have to scrub to get the rust residue off. It's a powder and all you would have to do is put the coin in a bowel of water and put some iron out in with it and watch the rust disappear. I would like to say.
Coins like this will never be album quality, at least in my opinion.
For me, coins like are good to see if possible to restore at least a little.
I feel knowing how to do this, has more to do with metal detecting finds.
Finding coins like this, metal detecting, started me out looking for ways to make my finds a little better.
I do feel cleaning collectable coins, in most cases hurts them more than helps.
Reading and posting on CCF ancient coin section, I think, helped me
deal with coins like this.

The most recent photos make the coin look fine. It isn't amazing, but I would still throw it in my type coin set till I find an upgrade (I'm missing that style, if you want to sell it  ). Edited by morgandude
