My first impression was EAC 40. Coin shows only high point wear but the damage on the chin knocks it out of EF contention. Odd color, I'd have to see it in hand. Fantastic coin none the less.  1828 C-3 40/35. |

I think I'm going to stop posting coins for grading until after I have my new camera up and running. I just can't photograph slabs with the current system.
Celticsoul, I have it at EAC40 as a net grade due to the mark on the chin (45 net 40). The surface color is choice, super choice really, as it is what one would hope the surfaces would look like color wise at this grade level. Surfaces are glossy with traces of luster. The mark on the chin is a bit weird, I can't determine what it is really, but obviously it shouldn't be there. Despite that mark the overall choiceness of the rest of the coin keeps it above VF levels for me at least. NGC has this in an AU53 holder. I don't disagree with that. There are marks, but hardly any wear on the high points.

The reverse sharpness is definitely 45 but on the obverse I decided to err on the side of caution. EAC 40 is not a stretch. Like I said about the color, that's the hardest thing to judge when looking at a photo and not the real coin. I think NGCs grade of AU-53 is too far off even for NGC.

Nice coin! If not EAC40 it is ever so close. One would really need to see it in-hand to get a better impression of the surface quality.

NGC at AU53? I thought it might have been graded AU by them, I have this one at an EAC grade of VF30+ maybe even EAC VF35.

EAC is short for Early American Coppers. We are a collecting society dedicated to collecting early American large cents, Half Cents, colonial and post-colonial copper coins and tokens. We have a very strict grading scale that we use to grade copper coins. |
