Yeah, it got buffed or ground down. Maybe it spent sometime in a rock polisher...?

I don't think so myself. The rims on the OBV are too sharp. I would think that it were a tumbler then both sides would be about the same.

Maybe a buffing wheel but that doesn't sound correct either.

Weak center devices on the OBV and sharper rim, and then a weak rim and sharper center device on the REV.

Then look at the lower bust and the indent moving north towards the shoulder.

Could be intentional but as Coop asked, can you give a weight and diameter? That could help.

Also, just some advice, don't get into the habit of holding your coins like shown in your pictures.
Hold them by the rims so as not to get finger prints on the coin.

It can REALLY ruin a coin. The oils from your hands can etch a coin. Just a good habit to get into weather it be old and worn or brand spanking new.

So it is a little under. (3.1 grams is normal) So it was reduced some. Thanks for the update.

Tough call on this one. Better images would help.

Ya, I'd like to see the date and LIBERTY better. They look smeared but that can be normal for a filled die.

There is no question in my mind that this coin was altered/damaged outside the Mint.

I'm pretty sure Mike is right. The date and LIBERTY look damaged. I had hoped that was just in the photography but based on what I've seen so far, unless something much clearer suggested the smear was in the photography I'm going to side with Mike.
