I seem to recall that tokens are graded pretty tough. EF40 is my guess.

series is very poorly struck, it should be a 40 or 45

Courteau variety 11 / R-1.

AU 55, perhaps MS-60.

I was expecting something better out of this token but most of you were close.

I agree. I have seen MS ICCS's having much less detail.
The fields are clear (except for the rust spots from the die), and at
that, the rust spots are crisp and not worn. The double straps on the
left shoulder shew clear separation of each line. This is the first
area to shew wear. The upper section of the lower strap is beginning
to merge, but is still separate. The double row of feathers on the Angel's
arm are clear and distinct. The recut to the upper Shamrock of the Harp
is clearly distinct. The corner of the eyelid shews no wear.

I still believe this to be AU 55 or MS 60.

I would put her in acetone for the black stuff stuck to the obverse and depending on value either sent it to a US TPG for conservation or treat it with coin care or verdicare.

Well, lets do that as an exercise. I'll do some restoration work with the coin and we will ship it back to ICCS and see what happens.

I would suggest first lightly picking at the black gink and verdigris with a tooth pick but being cautious while doing it.

If and when you do clean it a bit and are successful at removing "some" of the spots or green,..I'd love to see the results here..

As promised, I would do some minor conservation work on this token and resubmit to ICCS as many thought it was under graded. The two top pictures are before followed by after. The token was submitted raw and came back EF40 (same as the first time). The hairline like visuals on the bottom pics are just fibers on the flip.
