To dark of a color for my liking. Looks like it might be on its last toning cycle as well?

Actually, this coin may have more color than NGC's photo. They may have not gone for the "glamour" shot like PCGS does. I'm not saying it's a monster but it may not be the wet dog this group of photos convey.

Two problems for me: -- I don't like the toning (but generally speaking I don't like any toning) -- it's an MS-62; I don't like MS-60, -61 and -62 coins (although I do have several but that was a factor of economics)

Quote: The obverse is a serious monster alright but not in a good way. It is downright ugly. A bit harsh saying that but I do agree it is just not a nice coin. Now that is sort of a better way to say YUK.

The toning is too dark and unattractive for me. I would pass on this coin and look for a better one.

For now, I am not sure. Last night I was trying to take a picture of a Morgan dollar. I could not get the toning to look in the picture as the coin looks in hand. It always came out much darker. SO now I am not so sure the coin the OP posted looks as bad as it does in the picture. For mine...In hand, if you like toning .. this coin does not look so bad.

Not getting those joy-joy feelings about this one.

In my opinion, if I could afford a MS-63, I wouldn't even consider a 62. Not sure of the price difference for this series. As fas as eye appeal, I would say none. Find one with more appeal.
Seems to me that you were probably thinking along these lines and just wanted someone to back you up. trust your gut

Is it worth giving this coin a quick dip by someone who knows how to do it? Consider: Verdi-Care works well for bronze / copper coins.

The ugly toning is one reason NGC pegged it with a 62 grade.
If the toning had eye appeal it would have probably graded 63 to 64.

Definitely not "Monster Toning" toned pretty dark, while it may have color, it is in NO way toning that would merit any price increase above retail. To score "Monster Toning one really needs light colorful rainbow toning or roll wrapper end toning. See http://www.jhonecash.com/coins/tonedmorgans.asp

I would not have chose this one for my collection. Since I value eye appeal, I would have to rate this one negative.

I would say that this coin is quite ugly, but it seems that everyone else before me has already confirmed it.
