Might this be a circulated proof? I don't know what the die markers are for the proof issue

The detail is AU but the obverse fields are a concern. It appears something was done here and I am not sure what.

I've got an NGC 55 of this date and this is almost identical, except your reverse is nicer with fewer dings than mine.

My first thought was AU-55.

Reverse is virtually unc with an excellent strike. Obverse shows friction in the fields and Liberty's cheek and slight wear on the hair curls. I see many faint, tiny lines in the obverse fields that could indicate a very light cleaning but they don't look severe enough to warrant a details grade. AU-55 seems fair overall.

After viewing a few certified pieces it seems this series picks up field ticks/marks with very light circulation. I've gotten skeptical about ~$500 coins that are uncertified and assumed there must be reason. This piece is likely an AU+ problem-free example.

Thanks everyone for the input and grading opinions. I purchased this from camera phone photos and took alittle risk hoping that they were bad pictures. You know, sometimes you can find a good buy when the photos don't accurately show the luster on a coin. This was not the case on this $1 gold. I was disappointed that the obverse doesn't have better luster and I agree with most that this is an AU coin. Probably 58 with some light cleaning. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to return this one.
Again, thanks for your input. It always helps me make better decisions once I get input and feedback from you guys on the board!

I knew it was lightly cleaned, I would return it also if they didn't mention it in the ad.
