I read a wonderful, informative article on the FNB of Porto Rico at San Juan in the SPMC's Paper Money July/August 2014 issue.
There are 14 Porto Rico nationals reported.

I am slow in reporting that Tennessee Boxes 1 through 4 have been posted for transcription.
I noticed that they made the box for the Bank name bigger this will help in the reviewing process.

Tennessee Box 4 is all that remains for this state.
Texas Boxes 1 and 2 have been posted as well.

Here's an interesting oddity I found in one of the Texas boxes. This is the bottom note from a 10-10-10-20 proof sheet from the FNB of La Grange. The interesting thing is the certification date -- two weeks *before* the plate date on the note. This is not an error and it's not even that uncommon, I've seen this on other proofs before. Anyone care to offer an explanation?

Corporate life of national banks after 1864 was 20 years. The banks had to apply for extensions to keep conducting business. The plate/Charter date for the FNB of La Grange was July 9, 1888 (Texas Box 4, page 2). This means that before July 9, 1908 the FNB had to apply for an extension. An article by Huntoon may help particularly the section titled "Plate dates" http://www.numismaticnews.net/artic...n-a-national

Texas Boxes 8, 9 and 10 are ready for volunteers. There are plenty of proofs to go around.

Good explanation on the plate/cert date differences. I actually knew the answer, but wanted to give members something to ponder. Once the bank submitted paperwork to the Comptroller for an extension of their charter, word was passed to the BEP to prepare updated plates. Typically new plates weren't ordered until all the paperwork was processed, but to avoid a delay in delivery of to needed currency, work on the plates was done concurrently and sometimes was completed before the actual re-charter date shown on the banknotes themselves.

Quote: but wanted to give members something to ponder. I was happy to see the answer because otherwise . I worked on Texas a little bit today. I missed most of the past month for two reasons: 1) I got a new computer and it's driving me to distraction. 2) We had hawks in the back yard -- with a nest and babies. I usually would spend half and hour to an hour on the notes late afternoon but that was supper-time for the hawks and I was outside with the binoculars day after day. Anyway, I'm settling back in to my old routine and it was fun to get back to work on the notes again.

I was without internet access from the 12th to the 19th---man that was a long week.
I see that Texas proofs got finished up. Utah proofs were posted and done. No surprise there as that state had fewer banks organized than other states. Virginia boxes 1 and 2 got completed.
Boxes 3 and 4 for Virginia have been uploaded for transcribing and reviewing as of this post.

Washington state proofs are ready Boxes 3 and 4.
There aren't that many states left after Washington. West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. This transcription project has really gone by quickly.

DONE! Moments ago, I signed off on the last note in the last (and only) box of Wyoming nationals. Unless there are some out of order boxes that haven't been posted, that should wrap up the transcription project. It's been fun! I've learned a great deal from going through these proofs -- it's been a terrific education! Thanks to everyone who pitched in on the transcription!
