Cool thank you Jack. I know you won't like me saying it lol, but I think mine has a bit more detail than your VF35, so I'm hoping slightly higher than VF35 :) I will definitely get it slabbed soon. Thanks buddy

I would let yours sit in some acetone changing the baths every couple of days in hopes that the black stuff (most likely folder residue) would eventually lift off.

Looks like an above-average coin with strong date and head detail. Easily makes EF-40 for detail IMO. As mentioned a soak in pure acetone might remove the black crusty stuff. The downside with that is the metal under the crust may have a different color than the rest of the coin. It would probably be an improvement however since the crust is pretty distracting.

I'd be very careful and make sure that is not an altered mintmark. I don't like the convenient black gunk around the mintmark. After a little bit of comparison, the mintmark style looks a little "off" from a 1923 S. I could just be overly paranoid...

Nice SLQ and some mint luster looks to still be visible. This makes EF technically. With the crude on it, I would grade it EF40. If you were able to conserve it, I might grade it EF45 depending on how she looked afterwards. Very nice and one to be proud of.
As for value, it will obviously depend on where it grades. If it's slabbed by NGC/PCGS and get a straight grade of EF then probably $1000 to $1200. Book might be higher, but I think this range is what you should expect. hth.

I'm in the EF-40 camp, cleaned at some point. I agree acetone may work wonders on the black gunk.

Hi guy, sorry first time user, so thanks for your feedback. I don't like cleaning my coins, but given the feedback, thought id just give a rinse with lightly soapy water and lathered with fingers so it doesn't scratch, then thoroughly rinsed with water. Certinly didn't remove the black crust, but generally increased appeal. Will upload a couple pics

Also worried about the S mint mark, comparing it to Jacks examples, thinking it should be slightly higher and more to the right :(

Actually don't worry about my last comment, stupidly I now realise it was the angle I took the pics, making the Ming mark look out of line and adding shadow. Been looking into Grading, but would be up for over $100 ex Australia, so will stew on that for a bit longer :)
