Yeah, the fields are nice with luster, but the hairlines are a bit concerning on the portrait.

The obverse looks like it's been cleaned/cloth rubbed. I would suggest sending it back, unless you purchased it at low money knowing that it was cleaned.

soft cleaning, visible on the obverse, most noted in the head and face.

I'll go MS-60 Lightly cleaned. If you really want a bu 1914-P Barber quarter, this one is not for you.

not certain about the strike on these coins, but don't the wings look completely different?

I do have a fourteen day return privilege and just got the coin today. That's why I've kept it in the holder.
I got it for AU money, but think I will return it if it has been wiped.

I bet this is a great looking coin in hand. I have a 1934 D Peace dollar with this same problem. Looks great in hand, but the wipe lines show up on pictures.. Once you see the lines in pictures, it gets easier to see them in hand .. As others posted ... Unfortunately that is what looks like happen to this coin.

I took the Barber quarter to my local coin dealer today and showed it to him. He confirmed everyone's opinions that the coin has been cleaned. He said that it looked to him as if someone had used baking soda on it. That was a new one for me. He also told me that was unfortunate since it may have been a very nice slider/Uncirculated coin before being cleaned. We ended up having an informative (for me) discussion on how people clean silver coins. He talked about using ammonia and whizzing silver coins to restore "luster". I'm glad we had the talk. I have a LOT more to learn about detecting cleaned and altered coins, but am glad I asked CCF about this Barber and that I have learned enough to have been suspicious of this one. It's going back in the mail tomorrow.
