Nice gift! I would say it is an Fine in quality. VG is to low for this example. If you look at the portret and the reverse are to many details for this grade...

Never noticed the word in the waves before !! (Soro or Soxo?)

I've wondered what other people keep theirs in too as I bought a large enough capsule but it was only a few mm thick.

I feel like I haven't got the right picture yet to capture all the details in hand. I'll keep trying. I can't make out the 3rd letter either...

I think it is an ounce of copper ^^ they are nice coins but generally in poor condition. You have a nice one there - now you need the half penny and farthing to go with it :)

I bought these three coins together on ebay a few years back, looks like the penny had a bit of rot (which I treated with verdicare) Not the crown jewels but deserve a spot in the collection.

Just the "Feel" of these chunky coins in hand is very satisfying , Much like the feeling of flicking a Morgan dollar in your hand

DavidUK ... I really like that group of coins.
I have not seen the Half Penny and Farthing before.
As far as this series, late 1700's. I will be
watching out for them. I think I would like
to have those and the Two Pence in my collection.

Here is my Penny

Nice one, but I note that in photo's it is almost impossible to tell what we are looking at with one coin being the same as another just slightly smaller.

Mine I believe are the 2 pence, 1 penny and half penny... (missing the farthing)

I did mistake which coins were in your pictures.

Wow! I know how big my penny is ... That Two Pence must feel huge.

The word, which is actually Soho, is a mintmark for the Soho mint in Handsworth, West Midlands, a private mint which was contracted to strike coins for a while.
