Thanks, Its quite hard trying to take pic's through ICCS plastic. I think it will get easier once I start taking photos of my 2x2's

They are really bright, especially the large cent. Try a little less saturation with light.

Beautiful set of coins qbvbsite..
Does the '28 have a dented rim on the obverse (at 12:00) or is it just the way the photo was taken?

The light off those flips is such a brutal thing to deal with...

I don't have a camera.. (just an ipad) but I have been reading up a bit on how to help with the light ...

These are the things I'm going to try.... you might as well..

1) try to diffuse the light sources - using a cloth it evens out the light
2) mock up some sort of "tube/cone" that goes over the lens to minimize the amount of light that goes into the lens.

Also just from the photos it looks like your ISO setting may be a bit high.. try for an ISO of around 200 but adjusting the shutter speed. If you don't already have one.. make sure you get a stand or tripod and fix the camera on that to avoid any shaking of the camer when you press the button.. and it may help to set the camera on a 3 second timer.

Did another photo shoot and defused the light with some white paper and mounted in front of the light. Below are the results:

Great looking coins and the pictures are an improvement from the first set but it looks like the colour saturation may be on the high side.
I really like your presentation.

Cheers, Bill

Thanks guys :) I think the saturation is a little high because of the ICCS flips. I think I may have a better photos with 2x2's which i'll be trying in a few days.

I find taking a picture through a 2x2 helps mildly defuse the light sometimes. It is an art to show the coins natural color and tone while showing full details. I had a set up, that I thought was just about spot on, then my light fail off its base, now I'm starting over. Every little thing makes a difference.

I may be off-base on this project---but the way I judge a good photo is by the megabytes I can fit in rim to rim---about 1.8 Mgs and special attention to focus----am I wrong?

For the saturation.... Make a strip of black construction paper approx 3-4 inches wide minimum and shape it into a cone with the narrow end open the size of a nickel and the wide end big enough to fit over your lens. A little masking tape to fix it there and now you minimize the light into the lens while still lighting the subject up nicely
