Were there any silver or billon scalloped edge coins produced for circulation?

Some NCLT issues: Canada 2012 $15 Year of the Dragon (KM#1186), 1 ounce .999 silver. I believe in the same year there was a similar Chinese issue, also with a scallop edge and consisting of 1 ounce .999 silver, in a 10 yuan denomination.

This is a good thread. What would be the first world coin that was struck in this shape? I'm interested!

Here's a webpage on the topic that lists quite a few countries that have issued scalloped edge coins since 1900. What might've been struck prior to that date, and how much earlier, I just don't know. See: http://portlandcoins.blogspot.com/2...d-coins.html

Doing a quick check, the earliest I could find was a 1906 India One Anna.

1959 India 2 Naye Paise This specimen looks to be uncirculated and is pretty presentable compared to some others that exhibit flow lines in the fields and loss of detail in the devices that would seem to be indicative of advanced (worn) die states, which is not too surprising since over 171 million were struck for this year.
