Yeah the size of the Morgan, peace and half dollar would probably give those away. I don't believe they would have slots for those in the tray anyway. I'm still shocked over it though. Just goes to prove, you should always check your change...

Almost as if they brought the cash register out of cold storage. Nice finds.

Quote: Ah, someone trying to get rid of their 'foreign' coins. Makes sense for the Barber and the IHC, but I don't think that's plausible for the Washington and FDRs.

It's amazing that cashiers don't even notice or care about "different sounding" coins, that's why silver quarters are taken from circulation even by the non-collectors, but this is probably the best change haul I've ever seen someone get. Definitely better than my best of a 1962 penny and 1974 quarter all at once!

that they of all people, handling coins so much, would notice the difference. Even my dad, who has no interest in coins whatsoever, noticed a 1964-D quarter in his change last year.

I used to work in retail and handle tons of coins. Now this is my my much younger days. I had an agreement with my mananger that I could exchange coin for coin anything I found. He just didn't care that it was silver and I wasn't going to argue. I'd get a wheatie here and there and an occasional old nickel. On a couple of rare ocassions I get a silver Rosy. But nothing like what happened to me last week.
It was simply amazing when I got home and pulled it all out to look at it again. I was just stunned. You're right, the cashiers don't care because they have no reason to care. To them it's all the same. Just coins for change. If it was someone dumping dads coin collection I feel bad for him. But I'm sure not complaining...

Do you have to exchange the same coins? For instance, if you took a roll of halves, you had to swap it for another roll rather than two rolls of dimes or a $10 note?

All my manager was concerned with at the time is that the register balanced. Therefore, if I took $2.00 in change as long as I put two bucks back he was cool with that. Now this was a long time ago I don't know how managers view this today.
