Very interesting

I am not qualified to answer

I seen something similar once in a slab but don't remember the wording or the detail enough

but look forward to an experts opinion

Possibly a ragged fissure, but I've not seen enough to know the diagnostics well. It looks as though there could be a slight Blakesley effect, but not sure. I don't particularly like the damage around the broken area on the reverse. Interesting though.

Looks like it was struck on a ragged planchet to me.

I am not seeing any effects to the opposite side one would expect from a pre-strike error. Also, note the dammage to the E of EPU directly below the damaged area. I am not an error guy, but judging from what I have seen and learned, it just seems PMD.

Thanks for the links, OcalaFlorida.

It sure looks like it could be a ragged clip.

Have a variety and an error on a coin doesn't increase the value though.

To an error collector it doesn't matter that it is a variety.

To an variety collector, it is undesirable because it is not a complete coin.

So it would probably be more interesting to an error collector.

This is why I hate errors. With errors it is could be or might be. With varieties it either is or it isn't.

Interesting..wonder why you dont see metal flow into the void tho? Could this piece have fallen out after the strike?

It is a planchet flaw and there is a small Blakesely Effect visible @TRUST. Nice find
