No offense intended, for sure! It's a small amount - hard to believe you could go wrong. Sounds like you should go ahead - I wouldn't argue.

How is their automatic shipment of coin's work? Can I opt out of that as soon as I make my purchase? Thanks.

I have purchased from Littleton in the past. The coins were good, exactly as advertised.

Unfortunately you will also get additional "coins on approval" that you will either have to ship back to Littleton or pay for at exorbitant prices. Too much hassle for me, that is why although some their offers look appealing I've never done business with them.

Mike Mezack, the Home Shopping Network guy) will often reference Littleton's coin prices to justify his own "deals". He calls them "A nationally advertised coin magazine", and he even holds the magazine in his hand while looking up something to tell you on camera. So, there's nothing dishonest about Littleton, they, and their like, are just charging CRAZY prices for all their materials. ...if you don't mind paying the prices, as was mentioned above, you will get what want. Your future re-sale value will be impossibly "in the red", if you care about that, and even if you never intend to sell something, most people just don't like extremely overpaying for coins....that's where the whole "getting ripped off" statementS come from with them.

Some people think they are OK but most keep away due to their policies of sending you STUFF without you asking. And it is sometimes difficult to get them to stop this. And as already stated, their prices are very, very excessive. They do sell to lots of people and most never go back. If you go to Google and type in Littleton, you will find an entry for Utube that says Stay Away From Littleton. Try it.

You can find the same coins on ebay most likly for a better price. Your $14 order is going to turn into $30 with you paying shipping for the original order, shipping for stuff without asking, and shipping cost to return stuff without asking.

Well the offer has free shipping included. I think I will just call and see what they say. I should be able to opt out of any further automatic shipment's right after making my purchase. Thanks for the help folks.

I used their approval service back int he early 1980's. It was my only real option for where I lived at the time. It allowed me to fill a few holes every other week or so for a steady fix. Price was not bad considering my lack of other options.

Quote: No one disputes this. Except me I guess. Like Jbuck I also bought from them on approval back when I first started. I was mostly buying foreigns but I got some US as well. While a lot of the foreign coins weren't bad, (and some even undergraded) I did received cleaned coins sometimes and the US coins I received were expensive and typically one grade overgraded. They pay good prices and are very strict on grading when buying, but I found they were a lot "looser" when selling. Of course I was not looking at modern coins. Anything modern at that time could be picked up at the bank for face value except proof sets.

Their coins are overpriced. This was one of the first things I discovered over 40 years ago when I first started collecting coins.

I always like the varying experiences of folks having dealt with Littleton. I had purchased things from them in the past as an early collector and enjoyed the approval service - back then it was non-US coins and they were much cheaper (still maybe overpriced for an experienced collector) that a 12 year old could afford. I also respond to some of their ads where I am getting some modern set or coins at essentially face value. They actually had a special on the Presidential dollars for like $1,25 each. Nothing was nearly as cheap and it had free shipping. the first approval for me was free return postage and I declined the service. Afterwards when I ordered I got a little note that said this offer was for new subscribers. OK, but they still sent me the offer. I've never had an issue stopping the service but I suppose folks do

Littleton works on the fringe of the hobby, looking for naïve mail-order newbies to hustle as long as they can. This is their business model, believe me.

Coinfrog: You are correct, sir...
Steele: Fortunately, my experience with Littleton was long before email was around. :)
One good thing I will say about them is I do like their coin folders... they are much better made than the Whitman ones in my opinion. Also, I can get them pretty cheaply at a local Barnes & Noble with gift cards I get via one of my credit cards. And the folders are made in the U.S.A...
