I'm not so sure thats not just breaks in the luster. I think this grades at least AU58 and I would not be surprised if this wasn't slabbed as an MS coin. Having said that I am sure BadThad and the rest of the posters are correct.

I wouldn't be surprized either, I'm not too familiar with their grading. If liberal, it could fall into MS60-62, if higher than that I would be surprized.

mine in my dansco 7070 was in a new ANACS slab (well not a new new slab but the old new slab) and it was graded MS-64RD so I will guess MS-63 as well on yours I am just not sure it has enough red for the RD designation but if the Obverse is the same color as the Reverse shows in the pictures it could be

Whoa, Mr. Merc, you beat me to it! I was going to guess MS-62 or 63. Color looks like it could be Red or Red-Brown. I would say the grade is limited by a couple dark spots and the blotchy toned areas. The MS65 RD grade seems a bit generous. Another clue to MS status is the simple fact that 1909-VDB cents are fairly low-priced in circulated grades. Most collectors would not have bothered to have this one slabbed unless they figured it could earn a high grade. This is a very old slab, and it is possible the coin was more clearly MS65RD at the time it was graded. Coins can definitely tone inside TPG slabs!

Very nice 1909 VDB. Photos of slabbed coins are tricky and you did a great job. I always end up with weird reflections or haziness.

Yes Jaobler, this coin has toned brown on the bottom of the obverse since I've had it, the reverse still looks about the same. I bought it off a teletrade auction about 10 years ago. The pics don't do it justice. I'll have to check my records but I think I paid around $50.

Thanks 1sikevo, I'm using an old Olympus C-5000zoom 5megapixel camera. I had a lot of help here at the photography forum (thanks SuperDave). I'm still working on my pics and hopefully they'll get better. What's up with your screen name 1sikevo? Does that have anything to do with Harley Davidson? I've got a 1986 XL 1100 first year of the evolution motor.

Whoa....I don't see how they could disregard the cheek and jaw rubs. It's a nice coin, but personally, I couldn't ignore those rubs.

I agree with Thad.. his looks a lot better, and I get a kick out of some saying ..Yeah I knew it must be mint state, after MrMerc posted a hint that it was.
