1876 Seated Liberty Dime - Possible Proof Or Cleaned Business Strike?

Thanks guys, I actually left work early since I would have been on the drive home when it ended at 6:30 PM eastern time.

I probably won't return it unless it is harshly cleaned. I take gambles, sometimes I win sometimes I don't. But....I have a nice 1916 Std quarter no date, 1881-S MS66 Cert Morgan and a few other scores to go along with my misses.
I don't blindly bid, I research if time permits and also use the knowledge gained from being a member of this site and learning all the time. I just came across it as the OP did while browsing and it stood out to me despite the lousy seller photo's.

I will post some better pics when I receive the coin.

that seems to be carbon damage on the back from the sulfide being stripped during an over dip of the coin. shame.

if it were me, I would get the $113 back and spend another $70 for this as its a legit and MUCH better option for really not much more. why own a $113 problem?

It looks like it would grade less than PF-60, if it grades in the first place.

Why return it? If you are unhappy with it, list it on ebay with better pictures and correctly attributed. You would get a lot more money that way.

I will probably keep it, not in love with Seated dimes but at least I have a proof even if it has some problems.
I could flip it and get my $ back but at least it is what I thought it was, and I knew the surfaces were questionable.
The MS62 Seated NGC dime looks ok, but no interest here.

I guess there are two sides to every coin ...

I understand having a example of a proof Seated dime for a little over $100.

I also believe this coin could be graded by ANACS and be sold for more
than $113 ....

I do try to understand the logic of high end high grade ..problem free coin collectors.

But all coins need homes ....,

I think that GR will do what makes him feel most comfortable and as it should be. I offered my POV on what I might do in this specific circumstance and we all have our own approach to this. Seeing both sides of the discussion and all aspects of "collector thought" is healthy for all of us and kudos to the CCF for existing.

I own problem coins as well in several examples that if not for their issues, although attainable financially on some days, would not be coins that I would have purchased. The fact I obtained them for 25% of their problem free FMV make the problems they do have easier to digest visually.

Its a nice looking problem coin IMO. I'd take TypeCoin suggestion and relist it on ebay and let it ride.
