We still own a lot of the pieces We bought from the Victoria North part of the sale except for the foreign , which we made out on just fine. The Landon Sale a much different story. The bulk lots and the tokens as well as the Mid Grade coins sold very well and have more than paid for our efforts at atttending what turned out to be Chucks last sale. We have also sold most of the Large Cents that were in the 63 , 64 range at a decent return. There was a lot of 1903 Large Cents that we won and ICCS designated as Landon Coins post sale . ICCS#XJN001 to XJN#013. Sold most of these as they are the only 1903 Landon Sale Large Cents designated " Landon " to the best of my knowledge.
Overall fairly pleased, we made an overall profit and still own some very pretty coins with totally original skin that owe us nothing.
I know from first hand knowledge that a couple of the American Dealers were over the moon ecstatic at their purchases and did incredibly well on some of the US coins and bulk lots . Let's say it certainly helped all of us who were able to buy in USD.
The best part of the sale was being there . Even though it was vicious cold , it was great to see a lot of colleagues and friends that I had not seen for sometime. Especially Chuck. Moore who was a great friend and mentor.

They have done extremely poorly on ebay. I picked up a few Landon cents for less than half of what they sold originally. |

If I was the original owner of the Victoria North coins, I'd be fuming at the auctioneers for having these coins sold at such a late hour (or should I say early hour) of the day and I do believe these coins went beyond 2am .
What kind of outfit does such a thing?

It was the Landon part of the sale that went to the early Morning hours not the Victoria North Sale.

I don't think it's how late the auction went (in my opinion), but with all the excitement that the Landon sale had the night before (it went on ALL night), I think people were just done with bidding. Either no more budget or kind of just relieved with what they got from the Landon sale. I didn't win any coppers from Landon (which I was hoping to get), but I did win two coins from Victoria North at opening bid. As for post auction, I have seen a few Landon and Victoria North coins on ebay asking for a pretty big premium (or at least so in CAD $), but I don't see them selling for that much. I don't really think there Landon pedigree is worth much of a premium, especially on typical coins that came in lots (MS63-64 coins). That being said, he did have A LOT of gorgeous, full red Victoria and Edward VII cents that were 100% red and beautiful. For coins MS65 and higher, if full red, I get why there's a premium. But for a lot of stuff on ebay, I just don't see it |

I thought the auction went to almost 4am (EST) and I also thought the Victoria North coins were the last ones sold.

Landon was the first night. That went on all night. The second night was Victoria North. Then there was the third night which I think was just an auction of amassed coins and not someone's collection

The only Landon pedigree I own is from Pacificoin... I was outbid on EVERY item I went after and I went pretty aggressively on a few items.
If I was the original owner of these coins I'd be very happy with the results of that auction.

Landon was the largest bunch of fresh Victorian and Edwardian cents to hit the market in my 35 years of serious collecting. I went to the auction and selectively bought four very high end cents. Time will tell whether that was a wise move, or not. My gut tells me the feeding frenzy had people overpaying for the 63-64-65 cents. The 66-67 cents were generally uncharted territory and did not go cheap, so as I said, time will tell. Complicating things, my personal opinion is that ICCS over-graded it all by a half point to a full point. I will let you know if that is true when I get around to trying to cross some stuff at PCGS. I bought two high end Newfy cents (1907 and 1909) from the Victoria North auction the next night. The Landon enthusiasm had waned a bit and I thought I got great prices on them. Since the auction, I have bought one other Landon cent that somebody crossed into a PCGS holder at 65 red. It went for lower than I thought it would at a Heritage auction, because if there is a finer 1882-H cent out there, I haven't seen it. Much of the Landon stuff was simply spectacular. So were a few in the collection recently sold by TCNC. I got one out of that collection, pretty spectacular 1900 ( Royal Mint)cent. Darryl, the problem was, if you wanted a few of the best (and therefore unique) coins on that night, you had to pay the price. Those will not come on the market again for years.
Roger, I have been lazy about coins in general. Haven't sent anything to PCGS for 2 or 3 years.

Can't say I've seen overall prices for the coins represented by the Landon sale dropping noticeably more than any other high end coin prices. Doesn't seem to have had any significant overall impact on that section of the market. I wasn't at the auction but we've picked up 7 MS65-6 1881H-1911 pennies since at the usual percentages of book values we tend to pay for high end examples. A couple of them were a bit more than the initial auction price. A couple were less. On average in the same range.

It sounds like a real mixed bag of experiences. Everyone that has posted seems happy so far, whether you got some great additions, recovered your costs and then some or found some really good deals. The real story on selling seems to be the need of a good network of buyers, which I guess is the case for most coins.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts so far.
