Quote: . Any guesses on what the coin will sell for this time around?
Quote: I do not know how PCGS would grade this coin now but it was in a PCGS 66 holder when it sold for $6,250 through Heritage in April of 2011. That 34 has been sitting there without a bid for quite a while...so I'm in DBM's camp on this one. This coin was hurt by changing from PCGS to NGC.. My gut feeling is that it will sell for a lot less than the last time ...and that's too bad because it's still a very tough coin.. Are you sure that it's the same 34 from that previous Heritage sale of 2011..?.. Did Heritage add that previous sale info in this sale..?

Wow..!!...Definitely the same coin..and $6325.00..and then down a bit..and whatever else in shipping and/or duty or other taxes or charges added.. ..if leaving the US.. I will be watching this auction closely....but I have a bad feeling on this coin..and the change in TPG here. __________ We also must remember that Canadian rarities don't carry anywhere near the same monetary punch as the other great non-Canadian coins in this auction.. A great collection of very tough coins when all is said and done..

Maybe the people who really really wanted it have already owned it. :)
That PCGS MS64 1947 PT7 quad HP dollar went for $4935 as well. I wasn't expecting that much.

So let me get this straight....
In 2010 and 2011 approx. $6300.00 in a PCGS holder.
In 2017, $4935.00 in an NGC holder.
I would really be interested in everyone's opinion what you would think an ICCS ms66 would sell for today.
I would venture to say that $6300 would be absolute rock bottom and most likely much higher than that.
Thereby proving once and for all for absolute value in a Canadian coin, it better be in an ICCS holder.

I thought it was a solid price all things considered. Everyone bidding on the coin knew its history as a PCGS 66 and bid accordingly. If D Moore acquired the coin in 2011 for approx $6300 he might have been the only bidder to meet the opening reserve. What would the coin have sold for if there had been no reserve as the current Heritage sale?

There were 4 "bids + registered phone bidders" for the April 2011 $6325 sale, according to ha. There was a $2500 opening bid for this auction, which nobody placed until day of auction if I remember right. Interestingly, there was another PCGS MS66 in the 2011 auction, and in a green holder, which had 8 bids/bidders but sold for $4887.50. Between the two I don't see much technical difference; this one just has more flavorful toning, and the description in 2011 was a lot more jazzy. Maybe D Moore was just bidding against someone else who really wanted it for the toning, and the other one went for a more normal price. The other one is here https://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/wor...nail-071515. To me it depends more on what bidders there are than what holder it's in, for coins in this price range.

Thanks for adding that other link (34) in here kbbpll. I had not seen that before.
I still think that PCGS is the only way to go on most tough coins.

DEVLEC... some food for thought. 1934 50c ICCS MS-64 "radiant tones of silver golds and blues" TCNC 2016 New Years sale (Lot #649) sold for $2012.50 (including hammer) 1934 50c ICCS MS-64 (same coin as above, same auction house) TCNC 2016 May Auction (Lot #564) sold for 2013.65 (including hammer) Which, if anyone knows TCNC, it sold "to the book" (meaning it did not get a bid on the reserve), in Canadian dollars. Here are other high grades: ICCS MS-65: https://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/wor.../419-50521.s? (2006 auction, I seriously doubt this one is in an ICCS holder today) PCGS MS-65: https://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/wor...419-50522.s?Pittman's coin in PCGS MS-64: https://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/wor.../340-14450.s? Belzberg's PCGS MS-67 (solo highest graded): https://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/wor.../312-15508.s? PCGS MS-66 in older holder: https://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/wor...014-23287.s?Compare those coins, to yours. Remember that eye-appeal counts too... I think the recent sale of the Moore coin at a lower price probably reflects a sign of the collecting times in Canadian numismatics, not necessarily the holder itself... I am sure dealers are praying for 2002-2008 prices again! The 'Perth Collection' also contains the George V 50-cent coins, you could ask Bob himself for an opinion on your coin at the next Coin Expo, (I suspect he has Belzberg's coin).

Thanks for these SPP..more very nice tough examples..
Yes I will have Bob view my 34..
There is always something special when you look at a Norweb piece..and eye-appeal and pedigree are such important factors.

Quote: Is "D Moore" someone we should know? Is this related to Chuck's estate? According to a friend who works at NGC, it turns out that "D Moore" is literally just Mark Salzberg, the owner and Chairman of NGC. It was his personal collection that he graded himself, advertised and then sold. He named it the "D Moore" collection because his favorite actress is Demi Moore.
